He only had 7 runs of support...tough to win when your offense only scores 7 runs

If this was hockey, Aceves would have been hit with the loss.

It's Nova Scotia Day today at Fenway. And let me tell you, the Canadian guy that sang "O Canada" also sang "The Star Spangled Banner" and it was eons better than any American singer I've seen/heard before. He can come back and sing again!

And apropos of nothing, the opening video they play on the scoreboard prior to the team taking the field is really well done.

1-2-3 top of the first for Lester. I think it's gonna be an ice cream night!

Little 7 year old boy sitting next to me tonight. It's his first game at Fenway. His dad's grandfather has the two seats next to us. I told him I remember coming to games when I was his age and the great grandfather would be there with his kids etc. Generations of Sox fans growing up at Fenway. It's kinda cool.

BOSTON -- The Red Sox traded outfielder Mike Cameron and cash to the Florida Marlins in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Cameron, 38, was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on June 30 after appearing in 33 games this season, while batting .149 with 2 doubles, 3 home runs, 9 RBIs, 9 runs and 8 walks.

The veteran outfielder was signed by the Red Sox on Dec. 16, 2009. He spent the majority of last season with a groin/hernia injury and needed season-ending surgery last September. He finished the year hitting .259 with 4 homers and 15 RBIs in 48 games.

We left after the top of the 8th. It was 3-0. Had the radio on while driving home. Almost shut the radio off after Bautista's homerun. Did shut the radio off as soon as that hit happened and didn't wait to see if the run scored, or didn't. Papelbon drives me nuts. Why didn't Francona leave Bard in? If he gives up a hit in the top of the 9th, then take him out. He pitched OK in the 8th. Leave him in. They were up 3 runs - was it even a save situation for Papelbon?

3 runs would be a save situation, yes.

The Jays got hosed. If you watch the replay Varitek missed Encarnacion on the sweep tag and didn't tag him until after his right foot touched the plate. The view from the camera on the first base side clearly shows Encarnacion's foot on the plate and Varitek's glove a foot or so above his leg.

Ump was really on top of the play (any closer and he would have been the catcher). If he was at a different angle, the call may have been different.

Beckett should have been kicking back with Jeter in Florida. If he goes down, looks like the rotation is Lester, Wakefield and whomever gets called up from Pawtucket that week.

Dozed off several times, but didn't go to bed until after the game. To use a hockey analogy, the Red Sox were like a team that gets 12 power plays but can't score, and the Rays were like a team that can't even get a shot on goal.

These teams scored 29 runs in the previous two games.

Nice job by the pitchers, especially Beckett and Aceves, though I was sure that Aceves hitting two consecutive batters meant doom.
