  • An interesting perspective on hockey...

This was posted on one of the local TV stations website regarding the sport of hockey. It's primarily about the NHL but the underlying theme pertains to the sport in general for the most part.

A little simplistic, but we'll take all the positive publicity we can get.

Hockey is one of those games that is best appreciated from a good seat in a packed arena with two good teams playing. Once people experience being there live, most like the game. The hard part is getting people out to the rink in the first place.

The writer should have included this quote from future Hall of Famer Brendan Shanahan:

Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. We need to have the strength and power of a football player, the stamina of a marathon runner, and the concentration of a brain surgeon. But we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us, oh yeah did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick? Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question.

I sensed a lot of sarcasm in that article.
