    If that ball had gone to the backstop and kicks the right way, there's an outside chance that Damon comes all the way around to score, if the pitcher falls asleep on the mound.

    Can you imagine in a situation where the ball is in the dirt and the runner takes second uncontested, he still has his momentum and rounds second and could take third easily. The pitcher probably doesn't break to third until the runner rounds second.

    This is why the shift is stupid.

    Exactly. This isn't the first time someone has stolen while the shift was on. It's the first time the pitcher was a complete buffoon.
