Re: 2009 MLB Playoffs
Right after the umpire calls a ball that has been a strike all game, Jimenez serves up a gopher ball to Werth.
2-0.

Through four and it's a real pitchers duel. Phillies lead 1-0.

Re: 2009 MLB Playoffs
After 3 complete, the Phils are hanging onto a 1-0 lead. Phils had the bases loaded and 1 out in the third and shock of shocks they couldn't bring in a run, as Werth and Ibanez both struck out. After retiring 7 in a row, Lee gave up a walk to Gonzalez, but got out of the inning on a DP ball by Fowler.

Re: 2009 MLB Playoffs
Through 2 innings, and it's 1-0 Phils. Both Lee and Jiminez seem to have settled in nicely after both had shaky first innings.

Re: 2009 MLB Playoffs
1-0 Phillies after an inning, on a Shane Victorino solo shot. Lee got himself into trouble, giving up hits to the first two batters. A controversial out at second, a strike out of Tulo and a ground out by Atkins and the inning was over without any damage.

Now that the Red Sox are out of the playoffs, the question remains: What will I be spending my 20% Jordan's coupon on?

Re: 2009 MLB Playoffs
Thankfully, I'm sheltered from that stuff by about 900 miles.
I don't want to lynch Papelbon. I just don't want to buy into the mythology.
Foulke was huge in 04. But when the team realized he had peaked, they weren't sentimental about it. I'm not saying Papelbon is through like Foulke was - but he's not God's gift to RS Nation.

Papelbon's been way too full of himself for a long time, now. He can get away with pacing forever, and trying to stare down batters when he faces the Clevelands and Baltimores of the world. But NY and Anaheim aren't buying it.Originally posted by Red Cloud View PostRed Sox and Yankee fans united over hating the Angels? That's an unholy alliance if I ever saw one. Jon, I know how you feel about potentially hating the Angels more than the Yankees right now. Many times in the last three or four seasons I've experienced a similar sensation vis a vis the Red Sox.

Re: 2009 MLB Playoffs
Saw this posted on another board and laughed. And would have shelled out money for an actual paper if it had happened:
If there were any women newspaper editors (or headline subeditors), who could doubt that the back page in Boston today would read "Pap Smeared"? No man would ever come up with that, and it needs to happen. That seems like a ridiculously long wait.
