I think the rest of the moves you're talking about (Samuel, Law, Seymore, Vrable, etc.) on the defense, they should have ponied up the cash, not made the trade whatever. The offense has always been, plug X into lineup here and he produces. Plug X into another team, he becomes a bust. Offensively, As long as Brady's there, I think we're ok. Defensively, they've been stupid (along with Thomas being a total bust signing).
Moss is like an old girlfriend. Her talent will send shivers down your spine and curl your toes, so some part of you wants to keep going back to her.

But she is d**n expensive. And watchout if she thinks you're ignoring her. At the end of the day there is just too much b.s. for you to commit completely and you've got to cut the cord.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

Patriots include '12 7th round pick in Randy Moss deal
Well that's a nice kick in the balls.

That's not to say that there is a genuine replacement for Moss. There doesn't seem to be, and this is a puzzling move. I assume Belichick is still in the hunt for a Super Bowl slot at the end of the regular season.

And these are the points that I was trying to make. Thanks.

So we have 2 firsts, seconds, thirds and forths, and the obligatory 7th rounder is a kick in the balls? Who cares about the 7th rounder?

I am going to have to agree with my inebriated friend Rover on this one. What a dumb move. I can undertstand wanting to get value for someone who you are not going to re-sign. But the question that needs to be asked is why were they unwilling to re-sign him? This guys ha caught 50 TDS since he has been in New England. Fifty. Who is going to replace that? This isn't the same team in the early 2000's that could rely on a great defense to make up for any lack of offense. Unless they sign a top flight receiving free agent (if there is even one available) in the offseason than this will go down as one of Belichick's worse moves ever.

Even worse, why trade him for nothing? At the very least get the rest of the season out of him. The difference between a 3rd rounder and 5th rounder = who cares, especially with the drafts they've been having recently.

I was just thinking/assuming Minny might throw in additional future considerations -- that that's what Peter King was referring to when he said there was a "minor piece" to the puzzle that was being unreported. And instead it turns out it was NE that had to include a seventh-rounder in 2012. That's all.

But FWIW, it could end up being important because the Pats have already traded a late-round 2012 pick to Philly for Tracy White and it has been rumored the Chiefs trade for Jarrad Page is a 2012 pick, not a 2011 pick. So it may not be totally unimportant. Also note that one of the guys they'll be counting on to increase his production with Moss gone is . . . a 2009 seventh-round draft choice (Edelman).

The obvious plan is to run and throw short passes to try to eat clock and keep the D off the field. Not sure this group can do that though.

Sure, you say that now, but just wait until Randy torches the Jets for 200 yards and 2TDs.

Then gets traded back to New England next week

They weren't going to the SB this year anyway, so why not build for the future? With two 1st, two 2nd and two 3rd Rd picks next year they could be all set for many years to come. Or BB could make some more bad picks :-)

Biggest problem is Brady isn't getting any younger. You've got 5 years at best with him after this year. Not sure they have that kind of time for future 3rd round draft picks to develop.
