Re: 2010 Little League World Series

On Friday they said the Japan manager is here for the 12th time or something crazy like that. They said he's involved in little league all around the Tokyo area, and that he's brought more than one little league to the World Series. It makes me wonder if he scouts leagues and picks the one he thinks has the best all-stars, or if he is recruited to coach a team, or he's actually involved in a specific league for a year or two at a time before switching to another one and is just that good at forming and coaching teams.

Re: 2010 Little League World Series

      Japan wins 7-2.

They may not have the power typical of many of the great Japanese teams from the 90's and early part of this decade, but they absolutely are one of the most fundamentally sound Little League teams I've ever seen.

They an anticipate situations so well and capitalize on every mistake.

They are going to be an extremely tough out once again this year.

Texas up 1-0 early on a leadoff home run from one of the Orlando boys.

Texas should win this pool easily IMHO and then they'll have to take on whoever comes out alive of the Ohio/NJ/Hawaii pool.

Minnesota-Germany a good one so far in the first consolation game.

Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 5th, Germany with a runner on third who scores on a wild pitch to take the lead 2-1.

Heading to the 6th now, Minnesota must score at least one in the top frame to keep playing.

Germany wins 2-1, snapping a 9 game losing streak at the LLWS.

Canada vs Taiwan in a Pool D winner's bracket game just starting on ESPN.

State of Hockey was right. Plymouth sucks.

I hope someone tells those kids that BabyJesus was embarrassed by their poor performance.

I sense another blowout. Taiwan already up 3-0 on Canada in the top of the first, no outs. Japan looks like the only team that even has a chance to compete with Taiwan.

I think I'm just gonna go ahead and give the International Championship to Taiwan. I would give them the World Championship, but Texas may have the offense to match them. While Taiwan doesn't have the power, they have linedrive consistency, speed, incredible sense of the basepath, and play small ball with the best of them.

16-0 Taiwan with one out in the 3rd.

EDIT: Ok, they do have power. They've got one chunky kid on the team, he's like a righthanded Ortiz, and he's hit 2HR this game. 20-0 Taiwan in the 3rd.

ESPN just switched to the Mexico-Puerto Rico elimination game, so I'm just gonna go ahead and say Taiwan won 23-0 in 4 innings even though Canada still has an at-bat left.

Taiwan has been impressive, but don't count out Japan yet.

They are very good as well.

The US has some darn good teams too. Ohio, Hawaii, Georgia, and Texas are all solid.

I predict that a US team will make the final.

Is anyone else embarrassed by the format that guarantees that?

I'm pretty much embarassed by about 90% of what Little League does...

I used to wonder about this too. But if you think about it. What's the percentage of little league teams in the US to the rest of the world?

I'd be willing to bet its nearly half.

I'd be happy if they would quit stuffing the camera in the face of crying 12-year olds after a loss.

I do like how every team gets to play a crossover game now against an International or USA team. That's a cool addition.

Still kind of meh about the double elimination format rather than pool play but thats just me.

I guess you can't really have both with pool play and having the crossover game so I'll have to live with it.
