I think that is a shade optimistic. My FWIW prediction (T = toss-up):

    W Purdue
    W Michigan
    T at Michigan State
    T Stanford
    L at BC
    L Pitt
    W Western Michigan
    T vs Navy
    W Tulsa
    T Utah
    W vs Army
    L at USC

    5 wins, 3 losses, 4 toss-ups, so:

    06% 5-7
    25% 6-6
    38% 7-5
    25% 8-4
    06% 9-3

    94% at least 6-6
    69% at least 7-5
    31% at least 8-4

Uh, very few teams go unbeaten, so one loss to a non-division team is not going to have as great an impact as you think. Since 1st tiebreaker is head-to-head and 2nd tiebreaker is normally division record, the simplest thing under your scenario is that both teams have clinched their division prior to the last-week of the season rivalry game, meaning they'll get to play each other 2 weeks in a row guaranteed.

I think it's far less likely for the rivalry game to knock someone out of the title game than you think. Odds are they'll either already be in or out prior to that game ever being played, since all the intra-divisional games will have already been played.

Edit: Remember, you don't have to finish 1-2, you just have to finish atop your respective divisions. A 5-4 conference record could do that if one division is particularly weak relative to the other.

Yah, if head-to-head is the tiebreaker for second, the team whose rival is first and who they lost to, is odds-on to have the edge on that one. As their one loss to their rival makes it less likely that they have a head-to-head loss to the team they are tied for second with and who has the same number of conference losses.

Delany just got done speaking at Big Ten Media Days. Says they'll meet and determine the two conferences in 30-45 days. Hopes for a title game in December of 2011, site to be determined. He says they may look to quickly lock down a site for next year on a short term deal, and then expand and look at more options.

The thing about the title game has me thinking that we're gonna have an indoor game in year one... I'm not sure where we go from there... I don't know if this is just posing or if they would really consider an outdoor "Northern" title game...

I know some of you give some credibility to Boise State, especially their complaints that no big team is willing to do a home/home with them. The big team says "too small", BSU complains- you are chicken.

Well, recent events in Boise may be showing that BSU is on the hypocritical side of the issue.

Last week, the university president made some serious accusations about Idaho's fans up in the Kibbie Dome, supposedly reacting to an article in the student newspaper at Idaho. He thought that the fans up in Moscow were drunk and classless... but at the end of the story, he backed the current coach's opinion that it's not really worth going up to play their top rival every year.

Really? Your rival game isn't important?

BSU says that now that they are in the Mountain West Conference, the way too small stadium in Moscow, the Kibbie Dome, which seats a mere 16,000, is too small for them to make the effort.

So it's bad if Nebraska thinks that Bronco Stadium is too small, but it's ok if BSU thinks that their #1 in state rival stadium is too small??

Or is it that they think that Idaho is improving enough that they could lose that game and hurt their national credibility?

SI sports writer Andy Staples has an opinion- http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...ate/index.html

Basically, if you think BSU's argument that no big school is willing to go to Boise is credible, you may want to re-think that.

It's because BSU has gone from being the small fish to being a bigger fish. It's a natural transition.

I saw this the other day, and I must admit that I agree with you on this... It's hypocrisy... I support BSU and their fight to become a true contender, but you can't do stuff like this... If you want to leave Idaho behind, fine... Just shut up about it and move on... Don't call the kettle black though...

Would have liked to see Chicago, but maybe they'll keep the roof open in Indy.

                        Probably not though.

I hope they do get some sort of rotation going for it, but for 2011 Lucas Oil is fine in my opinion. Sure beats Ford Field.

While I'd love to have Ford Field because it's home state, I feel it's overrated. It's probably because the only time I've ever seen it full has been for basketball games, but that place just does not seem to have atmosphere for football. Although the Lions, MAC, and high school championship games that only fill half the stadium are probably not good measures for that.
