Also, your histrionics about how awful the punishment is are a little overdone. It's about equal to what Miami got. They lost 31 scholarships over three years.
No proof he knew about it. No proof he tried to cover it up. Only the word of the Agent over his and some phone calls. No records of said conversations, just record the phone calls took place.

What you're missing is that the NCAA is generally the sanctioning body of all games. There aren't any games that are organized by the NCAA itself in college football, period. However, they still have authority to say how many games a team can play during a season and when. In this case, they say that USC can only play 12 games in a season (they're not even allowed to exercise the Hawaii exemption to get a 13th) and none after the regular season is over.

Well, he demonstrably lied about some aspects of his relations with the agent (his phone records do not support his statements about some stuff in 2005), so in this case, the agent actually does have more credibility. Unlike McNair, the agent has no vested interest in lying.

I could be wrong, though... I didn't work the figure up myself, I'm re-using stuff I've seen in discussions elsewhere.
FWIW, there's a belief that the B10 split is closer to 20M than it is to 22M.

Orangebloods.com (who has been on top of the story for the entire week) is reporting that Texas A&M is still mulling over an invite to the SEC, leaving a spot open for maybe Kansas in the Pac 10 (although Utah has also been mentioned). There's no guarantee that TAM follows Texas and Tech to the Pac 10.

There's also a report that the SEC will extend an offer to Virginia Tech.

At this point, I would be surprised if all of the major conferences didn't go to at least 14, if not to 16.

Of course the agent has a vested interest in lying. The NCAA could lifetime ban him from being an agent. He could also face prosecution under CA law, maybe he's hoping cooperation with the NCAA will prevent those issues from cropping up for him in the criminal court.

The worst part is this coach was basically a glorified grad assistant. He did nothing, why did he think he should cover this up?

I hope he's blackballed from the sport.

I haven't seen this mentioned here, but I didn't in back to read everything I missed...Fox Sports Radio reported that some source told them that OK State is all but committed to moving to the Pac 10.

At this point, it seems as though 4 of the remaining 5 are committed to the Pac 10. The only holdout is Texas A&M, which is still considering the SEC

Not so much fun when it's your school being targeted, eh?

Still going to make your jokes about Maine?

Of course I am, USC's coaches weren't actively cheating. Maine's were. Walsh was always trying to get an edge, right? At worst: it was one bad seed in Bush, and one moron coach in McNair who didn't report Bush.

Do you think the agent called McNair out of the goodness of his heart? He called him to give him information so McNair couldn't pretend not to know what was happening because he was still hoping to get his money back, so he tried to strongarm McNair after failing to strongarm Bush after Bush blew him off.

That's your side. The NCAA didn't agree. Tough beans, cheater.

That would certainly make sense from both aTm's perspective and the SEC's perspective. aTm gets to chart their own course independent of Texas (and they would presumably still play a non-conference rivalry game at the end of the season the way many of the SEC teams do), the SEC gets inroads into Houston and presumably Dallas as well.

The issue that I would see arising for the SEC is that there's no really obvious counterpart to aTm, although I guess they could pick up KU or Missouri if VaTech says no.
