Ernie will be on MLB network Tuesday night

Very troubling news in that link, but something I think we already knew deep down inside....

      3 things:

      1) Rick Porcello finished 3rd in AL ROY voting

      2) Justin Verlander finished 3rd in the AL Cy Young voting

      3) MLB network tonight at 8 pm and 11 pm, Bob Costas interviews Ernie Harwell. This could very well be the last time we see him.

I just re-read the thread. I still want to throw Gerald Laird into the middle of an icy Lake Michigan.

Looks like you'll have to wait awhile. This Indian summer keeps dragging on.

Mike Scioscia winning manager of the year is very well deserved. If only they could've beaten the Yankees... sigh

Naw, thats too good for him, how about he's to be dragged in front of a flock of starving penguins.

Tigers offer arbitration to Rodney and Lyon, but non-tender Polanco and Everett

I think they made a big mistake in not offering Polanco arbitration. And now they've got a mess at shortstop, too.

Figures. Everett has interest from the Bosox, Tigers don't want to be stuck with Polanco if no one else offers for him and he takes arbitration, versus getting draft picks for being a type A FA.

Dumbrowski better hope Sizemore can play at the MLB level and that there is another SS out there other than Santiago.

I can't take it. The Tigers, Lions, Wings and Pistons all tank at the same time along with Michigan. The Whalers suck. The Shock is gone, no Major Soccer teams, no other fringe rooting interests. I guess we could live in Cleveland, though.

                  Yeah, Cleveland hasn't won a **** thing since 1964.

I simply don't understand non-tendering Polanco. The worst case scenario is that Polanco returns to Detroit and Sizemore gets more seasoning at Toledo. If he burns up AAA in the first half of the year, trade Polanco and bring Sizemore up midseason. And if Polanco leaves, take the draft picks and go get more pitchers. I fail to see any significant downside here. Now, if Sizemore hits .155 in April and shows that he needs more time in the minors, we're dead-dog ****ed at 2B, unless you're really high on Will Rhymes.

I have no idea what we're going to do at SS. Everett wasn't going to get us any draft picks, but Santiago historically breaks down once you get past 200-250 AB. Cale Iorg was just this side of horrendous in the minors this season, and I've heard nothing about Danny Worth in about 6 months. I'm not sure that Brent Dlugach is the answer, either.

There's got to be a sizeable deal in the pipeline. I know that they're not saying that this is a fire sale/cost cutting, but if it looks like a duck, smells like a duck, walks like a duck.......

The main reason I think the Tigers are letting Polly go...Sizemore is cheaper. While he may struggle in 2010, he may not. It remains to be seen. Even if he just has an average year, it will enable the Tigers to know if they have a 2nd baseman going into 2011 when tons of money comes off the books.

But the other reason I see for the Tigers letting Polanco go is purely financial. With all the dead weight on the books, we can't afford to have Maggs, Guillen, Bonderman, Robertson and Willis all struggle. We really need for most of these guys to contribute in 2010.

Think about this question, do you think the Tigers would have signed Polanco if we didn't have all the above players signed for big dollars? I really believe if the Tigers payroll was in the 80 million dollar range, they would have kept Polly. Just my opinion.

I think the Tigers made the right decision on Polanco. What teams out there who would give up a 1st or 2nd round draft choice in order to sign an aging middle infielder with declining skills? I think today's baseball GM is too informed to do something like that, even the ones that don't seem particulary smart.

The Tigers proved last season with Renteria that they won't offer arbitration to a player they don't want back if they think there's a chance he'll accept. Polanco fell in the same boat this off-season.

The Tigers obviously have more faith in the readiness of Sizemore to be a major league contributor than they do in their upper-level bullpen arms. Although if Lyon and Rodney were "A" free agents, they would not have been offered, either.

I just hope Polly goes to the NL, or at least NOT to the Twins or another AL Central team.

It just means that Team Pizza-Pizza is taking the same tact as with the Wings. Sign a few fringe gap fillers and hope they don't get embarrassed too much. It's not like the economy is going to pick up, so they must be thinking that this is the right time to recede and hope things work out in 2011- if the fans don't get mad first. Get ready for mid 90's baseball again.

Well, at least now we don't have a GM that will f up 8 drafts in a row, unlike the one we had in the 90's.

Polanco signs a 3-year deal with Philly. Goddammit. I guess we didn't need those draft picks.

What sucks is that he was offered a 3/18M deal... so why couldn't the Tigers have offered a one year 7M offer, if anything to get the picks if he rejects it? And big deal if he takes it... this smells like fire sale to me. Then again, if Polly's back goes out for long stretches, Dumbrowski will smirk from his press box, as Sizemore struggles to hit .250.

And have I mentioned that I have no idea what we're going to do at SS?
