Re: Detroit Tigers, 2009, Part III: How long does it take for Leyland to screw this up?
from a Twins fan...that was a helluva game and it's unfortunate there had to be a loser. The Tigers have nothing to be ashamed about...it was a great game and both teams played like it. I know it's tough to swallow, but hold your heads up as fans. That's a great ballclub you have over there.
~ Twice, with runner on the corners and less then 2 outs, the Tigers fail to score the game winning run... let alone even attempt to lay down a bunt.
~ The Tigers and Twins may be the best two teams in the division, but they also play in MLB's worst division. Looking at the AL as a whole they are nothing better then middle-of-the-pack teams.
~ It may have been a good game in terms of excitement, but in terms of level of play it was a horrid game.
I've got it sorted by SLG. He's at the bottom for slugging for the regulars, just below Everett. If you sort by OBP, he's right there fighting with Everett and Aubrey Huff at the bottom there as well.

and they aren't the Packers, don't forget that.

I'd hesitate to call it the winning run. They did take the lead once in extras and couldn't hold it. Even if Laird had taken that walk, the Twins would have tied it and would have had the winning run on third with one out.
Something would have happened. A double play ball would have skipped through on that concrete carpet they have behind the pitcher's mound, somebody would have lost a ball in the lights, the roof(which was leaking in multiple spots last night) would have caused Granderson to slip and misplay a ball. Something would have screwed us and gone the Twins way. I'm really glad I never have to go into that building ever again.

Was it really that horrid? Sure there were definetly some blown offensive and defensive chances but there also were some amazing defense and offense that occured. I didn't think it was that awful.

I say next year we have the pitchers bat and DH for Laird at catcher if he's still around. Jesus.
