Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you
Dad will be going to Indianapolis on June 4th to meet with a neurosurgeon down there. One the one hand that seems like an awful long time before getting an appointment. On the other hand, maybe its not as bad as we thought if they arent getting him in asap. Who knows? Either way hopefully he comes home with some sort of good news.

Since he's already had the MRI it's likely OK. The specialists probably used the MRI to plan a course of action. If it was bad, he'd still be in the hospital awaiting surgery. Depending on the type and size of the tumor they may not even have to operate.
Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you
It's sad that people only seem to turn to God when things get tough. God wants up to pray, and not just ask for things, but give thanks as well.
1 Thessalonians, chapter 5, v16: "Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
Phillippians, chapter 4, v6: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
God will answer the calls of his believers. It may not be the answer we want to hear, but he does answer every prayer. Sometimes we are baffled by the answer we get when he says no (a loved one not getting better and dying, for instance), but the community of believers knows everything He does his for His glory.
I have a daughter that, to use a 1970's term, is ********. Why did God give us a daughter like that? So that God may be glorifed in her and to bring me and my family closer to God. We pray for Maddy a lot. We pray that somehow she becomes more "regular". More often than not, God tells us, "No, Maddy is going to stay the way she is". Then once and a while, she does something that just amazes us - God said yes to that prayer. All 5 of us in our little family unit are affected by Maddy's condition, but we don't ask God why, we give thanks to God.
Keep praying folks, but remember "Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven".
In closing, I go back to Phillippians, chapter 4, v7: "May the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Thanks for all the prayers folks. Mum is doing a bit better. They seem to have landed on a treatment that is working for now even tho they don't have a definitive dx.

Prayers of thanksgiving and joy for HuskyNation's new job opportunity!
It's been a long haul; he's been unemployed for around a year and a half. We've stayed faithful, asking for guidance and strength; now we give our thanks. We both know that there is a reason for everything and that all things are for His glory, but we are truly grateful for what we've been given.

A couple things. ******** is not an evil word. To try and humorously relate to college hockey, a sport we all love, it's similar to saying "The Trap." ******** means to make slow; delay the development or progress of (an action, process, etc.); hinder or impede, according to the dictionary. It's not an insult in normal context.
Second of all, while I'm spiritual, I don't follow any one religion, and I think many on here are in that same boat. We don't "just turn to God when things get bad." We "talk" to him most every day, in our own way. Whether it be "make this light turn green" or "make me a stronger person today? doesn't matter.
Again, with a comedic effect to illustrate my point:
Jules: Hey, Vincent, don't you see? That **** don't matter. You're judging this **** the wrong way. I mean, it could be that God stopped the bullets, or He changed Coke to Pepsi, He found my ****ing car keys. You don't judge **** like this based on merit. Now, whether or not what we experienced was an "according to Hoyle" miracle is insignificant. What is significant is that I felt the touch of God. God got involved.
So don't be preaching about how the majority turn to God when *'s going down. That's all I'm saying. I respect your religious devoutness, but don't preach. Just don't preach.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Prayers and thoughts to Laker, UncleR, lewsp, brooky, and all who need it, good luck.
We should all think good thoughts about our hockey compadres who are suffering. Sometimes in the give and take around here we lose sight of the fact that our fellow posters are human (I'm a repeat offender) and occasionally need compassion and understanding.

Thanks Brent, I was feeling the same way about the praying/preaching aspect but couldn't figure out how to put it into words.
I don't pray as often as I should, but I do pray just to do so and not because I, personally, am in need of anything in particular. And since there is very little I can do directly to help the folks on this board, my prayers are the one thing I can do to try to help.

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you
Dad's appointment with the neuro group in Indianapolis is Friday. Hoping the news is good.
I got a surprise package in the mail from him last week. This years (2010) Notre Dame football shirt. Nice shirt. Love the green color of it. Immediately became my new favorite shirt. He has gotten one for my brother, himself and me every year since 2002 I think. This time though it came with a handwritten letter from my dad. Something he doesnt do very often. He talked of being dizzy at times and having headaches of course. But it was fairly upbeat otherwise. He knew that I was planning on coming home sometime in July for 10 days or so. He was already wanting to know exact dates so he could plan stuff out. Wants to golf and fish and have cookouts. I think he is trying to stay positive yet realistic though. When I talked to him on the phone shortly after we found out about this he seemed to have an attitude of "If they can do something..Great. If they can't oh well I will just keep on doing what I do."
Anyone else out there with the need for good thoughts? Good news to share?
