If the Bruins had any toughness left on this team they would pick up a goon and whack Cooke's knees on the 18th. Screw taking the high road. Cooke just basically screwed over the Bruins' season. It's over unless Savard is better than expected.

Cooke ran to the bench and didn't see the ice for the rest of the game!

From the Boston Globe: Marc Savard has been diagnosed with a concussion as a result of an elbow by Matt Cooke at 14:23 of the third period. According to Claude Julien, Savard was knocked unconscious momentarily. Savard will remain in Pittsburgh overnight while his teammates travel to Toronto.

Julien said he expects Savard to be out "for a while." Julien termed it a classic blind-side hit.

Stupid. The NHL needs to add the "Contact to the head" penalties that I hear called in the CCHA all the time.

And if Cooke runs to the bench, you throw the points and try to nail someone else on the ice. Your season is basically screwed. The Pens can't bench everyone.

The Bruins didn't even know who hit him until after the game. Wideman was told it was Cooke and said in his post game "with that player I'm not surprised."

I'm not an eye for an eye kind of fellow, but if that was the case the Pens put Crosby and Malkin on the ice late...Bruins would have used Thornton to take one of them out.

Regardless, if Savard misses much time that might be the end of their season.

When your best player gets knocked out, someone on your team needs to be willing to take the 2+5+10 instigator penalty and pound the hell out of someone. If it's Crosby/Malkin, so be it. It's not like they can retaliate against your star anymore. He's already on a freaking stretcher.

paul steigerwald is a back stabbing jock sniffer. i don't think cooke feels any remorse. that comment to me, is funny.

it also was a hard hit, and a little from behind. but cooke didn't bring up any elbow (unlike the boston sportscaster keeps yelling) and made contact to savard's head because savard was low on the follow through. hockey hit. not a penalty (as it worked out on the ice). if they post suspend him now in "tom brady penalty" fashion, so be it. if the bruins want revenge next time they play the pens, so be that as well - it'll give them something to look forward to in an otherwise ****ty season.

Matt Cooke is a unremorseful bastage. Since when has he ever expressed remorse for any of his bad hits over the years? When you find some quotes, let me know. Otherwise shut up, you're a jock-sniffer in the opposite direction.

He lined up Savard and went for the head. He did bring his elbow up. Why did he raise his shoulder if he wasn't aiming for the head?

And using the incompetence of the official is quite brilliant. He misses the call and you're saying that's what makes it not a penalty. Hahahaha.

funny how cocksure even normal people get when your team is winning and something threatens that

That was an absolute strafe and Cooke knew what he was doing. He could have just as well knocked him over... instead he lined up his head and he had plenty of time not to do so.

edit: I'll retract part of that... Cooke couldn't hope to hit Savard down to the ice with a hit direct to the body... look how far back he had to come. Regardless, that hit was made with an intentional indifference to the impact... these things are usually emotions of the moment... and frankly Cooke has some ****-poor gut decision process when it comes to this stuff.
