  • So, I post a comment hoping libs pay some mind to Bernie's post-election comment, and dxmn immediately takes issue with it. His post elicits likes from just about everyone on this board. My original post, meanwhile, elicits a like from Mr. Drew.

Either of those alone is pretty convincing evidence I'm an idiot. Together, they are irrefutable.

Just shoot me now and throw me over the fence.

I'd love to believe Bernie Sanders is right and that if the Dems followed him they'd be in control of everything right now. Unfortunately I don't believe that. The people have spoken and the people want autocracy, xenophobia, and misogyny.

And they are happy about their choice.

I think the vast majority of people only care about themselves and their situation. The people on this board are major outliers in a lot of ways.

I kind of share that sentiment, but the voter motivation we care about in this discussion is not that of committed maggots, who will never change, regardless of the facts on the ground. I don’t know what we call those votes, but it’s what . . . 5-8% of the total, if that? Or is it a waste of time trying to distinguish the gettable votes from the ungettable?

No, I don't think you get it. They're not gettable. If they would vote for Trump against any other option then there is nothing you could do to convince them otherwise. Stop thinking their gettable and start believing reality. And reality is we hate women, we hate immigrants, and we love strong men who are *******s.

            This is who we are.

This is why this country is broken beyond repair. Everything being said about this election is just window dressing. More Americans than not are just hopelessly stupid. There is no longer any way to reach them.

There has been a lot of discussion around here about how Democrats spent too much time talking over the heads of people who should be voting for them but voted for trump or other republicans. I told members of my union that Ohio republicans gave millionaires and billionaires who live here tax cuts and showed them exactly how that led to their employer's receiving less funding. Less funding means less money for wages or benefits or hiring someone to replace someone who left. How much more did I need to dumb down that conversation? Outside of Cuyahoga County, members I represented overwhelmingly told me they were voting for trump and Bernie Moreno.

Oh, and when their employer cuts back again and a handful get laid off you know what they'll say? "'The Union' didn't do anything for me." Please help me understand how I am supposed to have a shred of sympathy or empathy for them. I'll save you the time. I don't and I won't.

Over the next four years a lot of people are going to be learning some harsh and painful lessons. My heart goes out to those out there who DID understand the consequences of this election and will suffer as well, through no fault of their own. I'll probably be OK. I have a good job, make a good wage, and have two pensions and social security. I'm also a straight, white, Christian male. Unless the world ends I'll probably know where my next meal is coming from for the rest of my life. If you're one of my union members and you told me you voted for trump and in 6 months you get laid off, I'll try to conceal my glee.

              • Did someone just say that people voted for Trump because they care about themselves? Get the **** outta here. They didn't vote for him because they care about themselves. They voted for him because they ****ing hate the other, they hate women, and they love that he hates them too.

Then why are they so pizzed about gays and trans people? Foreignors? Anyone that doesn't look, think and act like them? Banning books from their local schools and libraries?

If they only cared about themselves, that's all they'd be worrying about. But as we've seen, these people have no problem sticking their noses into the lives and situations of other people, and dictating how their lives ought to be lived also.

What affect does someone 1500 miles away getting an abortion have upon their life and situation? Absolutely none. And yet, they're just so damn concerned that that's going on. Almost to the point of obsession.

What changed between '16 and '20 (and, in reverse, between '20 and '24)? Biden got 81 m votes to Harris' 68 m. Dumps fell off in '24 as well, but only by 2 m. People who stayed home in '24 but voted D in '20 are not gettable?

The dems problem wasn’t that voters just magically switched sides, they lost 15 million votes. This isn’t even getting into all the people who just don’t vote because they realize we live under corporate dictatorship.

                      • They switched sides because of Trans people, more immigrants, and woke politics. They hate all of that. And they're never coming back.

I’m hoping this accelerates actions like the ones outlined in the Ministry of the Future novel

Are there studies or polls to support that, or is it Scoobyvision?

Which I concede is probably clearer than burdvision.

Some minority of voters probably did but that doesn’t explain losing 15 million votes, Trump didn’t exactly gain votes compared to 2020.

                              • I was with a group of germans, canadians, and others on election "night" over here in Germany and we were talking about the biggest differences in why social systems generally work much better here (in Germany) and why they would never work in the US. And it all boils down to a majority of Americans are selfish as ****. There's no "for the greater good" like you see in Europe. I'm one of millions in this country willing to pay 45% taxes or more because I know it raises the quality of life for nearly everyone - and when I do need to use any of the social services available, they'll be there for me - and they'll be pretty much free.

There's such a minority of people in the US willing to do that and the systems would never work because even the Democrats have policies that are further right than CSU/CDU.
