Because here’s the thing—the real thing. You’ve got to give a **** about other people. A kid in Pennsylvania is counting on you to send Betsy Devos packing so he can have a school lunch—the only real meal he gets in a day. RBG is out here clingin to life to save jurisprudence.

People from all degrees of marginalized existences—the poor, LGBTs, immigrants, your grandma with diabetes, minorities—are counting on you to stop wilfully making **** worse by “stanning” some defunct candidate and giving more power to the grifters and single-issue ****wits.

So sit around and pet your crotch about how Bernie was going to forgive your loans from your semiotics degree at Swarthmore. Or maybe just grow up a little and stop making the world better for people like me and worse for people to whom we owe a duty of care as fellow humans.

Care about the greater good for once—not just your infantile, idealized, selfish version of it. Care enough about your country to put away your fantasies about loan forgiveness and stop the guy whose goal is “well done steak cooked over the ashes of American governance.”

You're talking about the rate that inflation has gone up by has decreased, we haven't had any deflation which means it's still going up just not by quite as much. It's not just Big Macs, the cost of rent, groceries, insurance, used cars, energy, and pretty much every necessity went up drastically toward the end of Trump's term and never improved under Biden. I have no doubt that this affected enthusiasm for Harris as did her caring more about the Israel lobby than winning the election.[/LIST]I don't think either of these things is true, this country is privileged and still has a relatively high standard of living compared to most the world but the extent of that has declined drastically and it has had an effect on elections. People who were sold the idea that they can go to college and afford a house and maybe a nice thing or two clearly know that isn't the case anymore, it hasn't been true since before 2008 and the electorate just flips every 4 years out of desperation (2012 being the exception in a low turnout election where Mitt Romney was the opponent against a historically gifted campaigner for the dems).

As far as violence I'm not going to advocate that on a college hockey forum but I also don't know what the alternative is for fighting against fascism. Voting for either of the candidates in this election certainly wasn't going to accomplish that though.

I saw that right before a meeting started.

Deflation begets many bad things, and absolutely starts a spiral towards economic depression.

Everybody stops buying all but the barest of necessities, waiting for that better deal on their favorite widget. Then the mass layoffs start, then prices depress even more as people can’t spend the money they’re not earning, and then more layoffs, and the cycle continues.

A few hundred, or even a few thousand items going through a price correction is a good thing. For deflation to happen, it’s dang near everything dropping like our collective spirit around here, or trixie’s credibility.
