Okay, there were withdrawals in 2020 getting down to ~2,500 troops like you stated. I thought Trump halted a lot of that, but he only did for a short period of time, then restarted it.

Biden could have stopped there (and did hint during the campaign he may), but Biden was known to want out back in 2014 (Obama announced such a plan then, but changed his mind). I still maintain that even if Trump did set the path in motion, no matter what state the situation was when Biden took over, he would have done a full withdrawal anyway. If Trump did nothing, Biden would have started it. If Trump did something (which I now see he did), Biden would have finished it. Biden wanted out, so I will still maintain the main onus is on him.

Yep. He cannot afford to lose anyone especially in the battleground states. His act won't win new voters it's all about keeping his coalition. If he loses even 1% with the way registration is favoring the Dems...he is toast.

And the non Trump Administration GOP knows it (obviously they still support him they are just rank and filers in lower positions) they are almost resigned the House is lost and are begging for money to flip the Senate. Problem is he can't raise anything and what little he does raise he keeps. That lack of ad spending in every state but Pennsylvania and I think GA is a gambit they can't afford if he doesn't win.

Not saying that will matter in two months...but unless he improves his game I would be willing to bet the Dems get the whole thing (50-50 Senate) and this time I don't see them playing nice like Biden tried to do.

No way, fck that noise. If they get the trifecta (still a big "if"), end the filibuster and ram the D agenda through.

Correct. Biden could have but also knew if he did he would have been hammered for keeping the war going...something the Dems and especially the Progressives were highly against. From all accounts he knew he would take a hit but also knew the war was unwinnable and as you said, wanted out anyways.

They definitely will on some things (**cough**Abortion**cough**) and this time there won't be a Manchin or Sinema to screw it up. If Tester is the farthest Right the Dems go (and I get emails from him every few days about his abortion stance) Faux is going to be spending a lot of time shocked at how well the economy is going and how happy the populace is.

Harris is not Biden...Biden remembers a time when the Senate was so snooty they didn't care about the petty stupid stuff and they could actually get work done. Harris had a firsthand look at the crap that was pulled in the name of bipartisanship and is not going to have any of that. As one uber Lib commentator I watch made mention of last night...you never heard Harris preaching how she would work with Republicans. Biden wanted to heal the divide and it cost him dearly. She is playing a different game.

My guess is she will break Biden's numbers on judges too...and if she gets a couple SC chances well methinks Scooby is going to be dancing down Hennepin Avenue!

              (again this is all hypothetical)

                • These are people who don't like mean Tweets or getting cozy with Putin, but are also trained dogs when it comes to foaming over (pick one) taxes/guns/abortions. When push comes to shove, they're gonna vote with their pet issue in mind, even if their candidate is clearly a senile, drooling moron.

I did enjoy that the "Defense Contractor in Southern Arizona" was going to sit it out and is now leaning Republican. Sure thing boss. A War Machine guy near the border was not going to vote and now Trump convinced him. Please.

I am glad the Times printed this though...and not just because it makes them look even dumber than they do normally. A lot of people will see this and get even more motivated and hate them even more. AG better write another editorial about how unfair we are being to the Free Press...maybe this time in Politico!

                    (not ripping you btw)

Biden wanted to get out when he was VP. He couldn't convince Obama (who fell into the Lyndon B. Johnson trap of not wanting to be a perceived as a President who lost a war, so he upped the engagement -- during the Obama regime, drone attacks were 10x what they were during Bush's time). So, as soon as he became President, he immediately pulled the trigger.

The pullout itself was terribly managed. As someone who actually spent time in Afghanistan as a civilian contractor, I was greatly disappointed how the whole thing was managed. It was rushed without any perceived plan, abandoning most of our individual allies behind to fend for themselves.

(And as for Trump declaring we were getting out, that was true. He was also going to pull the trigger, but he was convinced to change his mind, so he never set anything in motion (other than the ridiculous release of thousands of Taliban prisoners with nothing in return). So, Biden was under no obligation leftover from the previous administration.)
Wrong. Donnie had negotiated a firm withdrawal date. I think it was in March 2021, although I could be off on the month. Biden got that date pushed back a bit, but there was still an official get out of Afghanistan deal that was struck.

I legit fist pumped and yelled "good answer!" like I was watching Family Fued when she said that. I have been waiting over two decades for a Democrat to plainly state that.

I'm really surprised it's being ignored today by the media. I would have at least expected some weird pearl clutching from the right.

And let's not forget the Trump administration then went from November 2020 to January 2021 not discussing important matters like these with the incoming Biden administration.
