  • NFL '24-25- lots of potential, any reality?

Instead of adding to that 55 page thread, might as well start a new one.

So the draft is going on, and a record has been set for QB's in the first round- 6. Based on all of NFL history and the draft, this will be talked about as the great bust draft in 5 years. IMHO.

I get that these players did well in college, including having bias for McCarthy. But at the same time, it's not hard to find significant flaws in each of the players. To the point that if they are not protected by All Pro linemen, they will make a TON of mistakes. All of them. The only one who has shown a realistic ability to not turn the ball over under pressure was McCarthy, but that's VERY filtered by the lack of passes he made during the most important games. Every single one of them made some great plays, sure. But all of them showed weakness to pressure, and that will be ramped up by the teams who don't solidify their line. Which is pretty much all of them.

I guess the only one who might have a good chance is Penix, since he has less pressure to start as a rookie.

I want to be optimistic for them, but I just can't.

If anyone is an expert on first round busts, it's a Lions fan. Might as well mail in the next few seasons Vikings fans. ; p

Nah, he's laughing. Got a big contract and may not have to risk much to get it. The stunned ones are the fans asking why did they spend SO much on Kirk and then use their #1 pick on a rookie QB. One that was projected to be later than 10 by most. Very confusing for their fans.

Lions move up to get what they need- a corner. They are a decent defensive backfield from being a REALLY good team.

I'll bet they will next get another rusher, then another D back, and if they have any drafts left, some more depth on the O line.

I like the moves. Got the top defensive player, and took a chance on a franchise QB.

The division is super weak and there for the taking. If McCarthy (or Darnold) is competent, they will have a shot.

Best part of the draft was Tony Khan, the son of Jaguars owner Shad Khan, wearing a neck brace during the draft. He’s the owner of All Elite Wrestling and was attacked last night on their main show.

Arnold might turn out to be great or a bust, but I love seeing the Lions managment just go nuts over their pick.

the athletic says Kirk is “stunned”

then again this is “if I die, I die” Kirk cousins

Heard on sports radio that the Falcons may not have done their due diligence re: Cousins' achilles injury, and may be trying to use medical reports to void their deal.

Related: A reason the Vikings were aggressive in giving mid-round picks away could be that they’re likely to be given some as compensation in the Falcons & Cousins tampering case.

The NFL draft is like the Home Shopping Network meets 12 Years a Slave.

I saw the same, but you have to think that in the background, Kirk probably knows he got overpaid for his performance, let alone his last injury.
