  • Fascinating discussion on r/hockey of how the Dead Puck Era came to be.

The usual points are there, the Devils, Lemaire, better goaltending, the clutch and grab etc., but there’s a really good point that’s brought up: The Panthers making the Cup Finals in 1996 really cemented the trap style. The 95 Devils could’ve been an fluke but the Panthers showed everyone that you could build a competitive team on the cheap as long as you had a great goaltender and played the trap.

When I was watching the Panthers-Rangers ECF series, I kept thinking, this is like watching the old trap games. Or at least the closest to them you will see nowadays. I found watching the series very frustrating, not because my team was losing, but because scoring chances were few and when they occurred, were usually "uneven."

      • Sigh. A few years ago I think I mentioned how a somewhat prominent local nhl player lived near me and went through a pretty nasty divorce. Last summer, he was able to get a judge to force all 3 of his kids back to his home country in Europe and leaving the ex wife homeless (although she’s also from that euro nation). The ex wife has gone manic since, posting furiously all over instagram about how he’s taken the kids, judges are all corrupt, kids need a mom, etc. since the husband did cheat on her a lot, many people like me thought she was wronged.

whelp. She’s been getting worse on instagram lately and really fell down some Christian rabbit hole. She calls Covid the “scamdemic.” She said sunscreen is poison and kids need to not use it. She said trump is being railroaded. She said a popular energy drink contains cyanide.

really beginning to see why he and his lawyer did what they did.

somehow her lord and savior Jesus Christ hasn’t solved all her problems for her

A handful of recent NCAA champs have used a very similar formula.

It is what Florida does. Florida just plays defense and takes advantage when you make a mistake. It is so irritating to play against. If you don't convert on the breakaways they give up then you just lose.
