  • I've been asked "boy or girl" 470 times in the past week by kids with the 'tism.

My coworkers have simply said "you don't have to answer anything you don't want to." I've simply said "not appropriate" and redirected the question.

As THE trans employee on campus, I feel they're making an honest effort to keep me safe and comfortable.

    • We have quarterly department meetings - one time a year it's in person, so they fly in those employees that live out of state. One of my teammates lives in Milwaukee. We are all working on conferences this fall and one of them that she is managing happens to fall on the same dates as the department meeting. My manager asked me today if I would be OK going to the conference instead as my teammate rarely gets to see any of the senior department leads, etc. she should get some face time and what not. I think she was a little wary asking me because then I won't be at the department meeting. Little did she know that when we were talking about coverage with our agency yesterday, I was thinking to myself "I should offer to go because I don't like those in person department meetings." Ha! I always feel left out for some reason during them and I really can't stand them.

I need to now deal with taking care of my mom those days and I was planning to go see BU play Maine up in Maine that weekend but I'm OK with missing that.

      • The rules say we can't use physical management with the residents off grounds.

So why did clinical blow up plans to take kids to the library because I haven't been fully trained in physical management?

Also, if the rule is "physical management as a last resort," why would management encourage us to wrap youth up faster, especially if they're not harming themselves or others?

                • Today is 20 years at my employer. I don’t know what to make of that, but the realization hit me a couple hours ago.

Years ago - I think it was my second year at this company, I had a boss that I didn't like very much (and many people there were amazed I lasted as long as I did working for him). I was driving home and sobbing in my car. I was at a red light a couple of blocks from the office. He was walking to the train right in front of my car. Part of me was thinking "Don't turn to look at me while I'm crying" and the other part of me was like "I could just put my foot on the gas..." So, to answer your question - yes.

                          wow. that's impressive

I really wish I could find a job I genuinely enjoy and stay there for several years, feeling fulfilled and stable. Right now, though, I’m still in the process of searching and trying out different things to see what suits me best. Lately, I’ve been getting really into coding, using resources like corelangs https://www.corelangs.org/css/basics/css/ to learn the basics of CSS. I find it fascinating how much you can create and customize with coding, and the fact that this kind of job can be done online is a huge plus. It would give me the freedom to work remotely and travel the world, which is something I’ve always dreamed of. I’m hoping that by continuing to develop my coding skills, I’ll be able to land a remote job that allows me to combine my passion for travel with a career I truly enjoy. Let’s see if that dream becomes a reality

                            • How long will you be there? I'm headed to Austin on the 30th for a conference.

                              • Let me know your thoughts on this. A senior leader is introducing a keynote speaker at a big women's conference we're sponsoring.
                                • Our DEI Comms person wrote the senior leader's script as per my request. Before she sends to me, she shares with PR person, who OK'd it before it came to me.
                                • Before sending back to the conference team, I forward to our Brand Strategy person to review, tell her DEI Comms person wrote it and looped in PR person.
                                • She reviews, sends back to me but copies the PR person to get her thoughts on her minor edits.
                                • I reply, thank Brand Strategy person, ask PR person her thoughts.
                                • PR person email both of us back, tells me she reviewed and provided comments to DEI person a few days ago. And then says "It would be helpful if you could email us all on one chain moving forward to keep track of feedback/reviews/version control."
I'm not sure how or if to respond. I want to say I didn't include you on the email to the Brand Strategy person because you already reviewed it. Brand Strategy looped you back in so I asked you to OK her edits so you were on the email chain.

It's crap like this that drives me nuts.
