    The world has changed.

...the Cards and Astros were in discussion on a trade to send him to Houston before Arenado informed St. Louis that he would not be waiving his no-trade clause to join the Astros.

    ...

he would approve a trade to six teams: the Angels, Dodgers, Padres, Phillies, Mets, or Red Sox.

Vladdy has reportedly turned down a 340M extension offer from the Jays. Soto has turned the market upside down. I’d say Ohtani started it but he’s his own unique case given the dual role and marketing power.

Only 4 years, though. Extend Bonilla!

It surpasses Shohei Ohtani’s heavily deferred 10-year, $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers in both total value and present-day average annual value.

The Soto contract, which is pending a physical, also is the longest ever awarded a baseball player, just as the Nationals’ deal would have been. The difference is that the total value of the Mets agreement is $325 million higher than the Nationals’ offer was. The AAV is $22 million more.

Players are pushing back on this big time. I think this idea dies on the vine.

If you think that MLB is crazy take a look at what they're doing in NCAA football and basketball.

Dodgers. Jesus Christ. They just spent almost $200 million on another pitcher already this offseason. They've got the second highest payroll already not even counting ohtani's bizarre *** contract. And now they want another three-quarters of a billion?

Rogers has Scrooge McDuck money even with the CAD being weak. They’re either a monopoly or duopoly up there and just spent a bunch to poor money into the stadium. They’re always in the running for these big free agents but lose out at the last minute. Not sure if it’s Canadian taxes, guys just don’t want to live in another country, or they’re continually being used as a pawn for discussions, but it’s not like Toronto is trying to be the Athletics.
