I’ve seen it made before by others and like I said it never made sense. UAA has never had a home rink where the locker room is next to the bench.

I’ve always thought of it as an East Coast thing with the reasoning being that Boston Garden was that way so their rink should be like it too. In HE it’s only what Maine, Vermont, Providence, and UConn where the benches are on the same side?

      • Kudos to Close on the shutout. His decades of college hockey experience really paid off tonight.

The joke is that the Gophers always did it too. They just ignored their hypocrisy.

Look at the old Gopher rosters...particularly the Brooks era, and then come back and we can discuss. Heck, even look at the Woog era. DeBus was about 37 before he left.

The difference of course being that Close is a fifth year senior, not a sophomore.

There were many more than one. I'm pretty sure Wooger's kid played for like 9 seasons.

Yeah, Minnesota played a really good game tonight. I missed the first 5 minutes or so, but it sounded like Close held firm early on some sustained pressure. North Dakota had some more chances throughout the night, but nothing great. Gophers played a very strong defensive game after getting the lead, and Close did the rest when needed. It will be interesting to see how tomorrow goes. I could easily see a very similar game, but hopefully with a different result.

Nd had issues in neutral zone. That surprised me since our d corp is a shell of last years. Your goalie also was excellent and the reason the score wasn’t more lopsided .

this was first game where I really noticed why Moore is considered an exceptional skater

                          • I’m of the opinion the age makes an impact, but it can’t be an excuse. Everyone is allowed to build their team that way. Motzko has said numerous times that he’d like to make the Gophers older.

I wouldn’t be the least surprised if this ends up being a split after tomorrow’s result.

Moore certainly had some flashes. His speed was noticeable throughout the night.

The Gophers did a great job of clogging up the neutral zone. We missed a few breakout passes, but, overall, Minnesota played an excellent defensive game.

I thought goaltending was fairly even. Perrson got a bit wild at times, but also made some solid stops. Close was generally just in really solid position. North Dakota also did not generate as many Grade-A opportunities as Minnesota.

I thought the score did not reflect how close the game was (perhaps in large part because Minnesota did not push much offensively after going up 2-0). However, I thought the Gophers were clearly the better team on the ice tonight.

I think the key is having a good mix of young studs and older leaders. It's really difficult to win a national championship with a young team...regardless of how many 1st rounders a team has. There has to be a veteran leadership to serve as the backbone to get through the more difficult times in the tournament.

A split is certainly possible. UND is a good team, and will hopefully be able to show their talent a bit more tomorrow night. Perron is an absolute beast, and he was almost completely negated tonight. It will be difficult to do that two nights in a row. That being said, I thought North Dakota did a decent job at shutting down Minnesota tonight. So, we might be in store for a goal-fest tomorrow night.
