  • NCAA Hockey - 2023/24 **Insert Witty Tagline**

I figured this is a relevant topic here, lol. Lord knows most of us don't visit the D-1 Board much anymore, lol...

I'm cautiously optimistic for NMU this year, as someone needs to fill the shoes of the (now kneecapped) MSU Mavericks. But getting to that point is going to be a war of attrition in the CCHA...
It's never too early to start the Pre-game festivities

I conducted a CCHA poll of USCHO, BG, and Tech message board patrons a couple of weeks back and received 40 responses (which is quite good). Tech was the consensus favorite to win the MacNaughton with Minnesota State coming in second. Conclusion: Mav fever dies hard.

UAA will play games. They will probably win some, they will probably lose some.

I think the poll is probably accurate.

MTU is returning the most talent. And MSU was by far the deepest CCHA squad, so their losses still leave them with some talent. New coaching is always a question, but the talent can help that transition.

I just want NMU to put a full season together. So far we've shown brilliance, but always seem to spend a few weeks in dumpster fire mode.

80% of our team is freshmen and sophomores. This is going to be a helluva first couple months.

Tech will go as far as Blake Pietila goes. Blake's brother Logan, leading scorer Ryland Moseley, and sniper Kyle Kukkonen return up front, with a solid supporting cast of guys like Jack Works and Kash Rasmussen who lead the pack of returning Middle Six forwards. There's a couple of guys on defense who opted to go pro whom I wish had decided otherwise, but we'll make do. Our freshman class looks like a talented group with a high ceiling, so the competition for ice time ought to be fierce.

Western should be in competition for the NCHC again this season. Denver as always is likely really good, and who knows what NoDak is going to do after their down season.

                      It's certainly a possibility.

If they don't use it in the Olympics anymore, is it really Olympic size?

NMU did this too actually. Seems to be the trendy thing if you have a 200x100 sheet.

It's happening in Europe too, Finland especially. Switching to 200x92. Consensus thought was 200x100 was too wide and cutting down on scoring, players would come off beating a defender out wide and cut in but it would take too long to get to the shooting angle and the other defender could come across and block.
