Originally posted by FadeToBlack&Gold View PostMichigan passed our reproductive freedom amendment 57-43 during the 2022 midterms. Considering Ohio just elected that hack of a writer to a Senate post, and the overall trends of both states, I'm guessing Ohio's vote fails by about the same margin.
A June, 2023 poll showed 58% of Ohians supported the planned amendment to Ohio's constitution that would protect women's reproductive rights, with language very similar to Michigan's IINM. When it became obvious that there was a good chance that voters would enshine these rights in Ohio's constitution the republicans in Columbus decided to hold a special election this August to change the law in Ohio to require a super majority of voters to change the constitution instead of the current simple majority, as well as other provisions that would make it much harder to get citizen driven issues onto the ballots. A similar percentage of voters -- 57% -- opposes this. The August vote is especially hypocritical because just last year, the same republicans voted to do away with August special elections because they are expensive and hardly anyone bothers to vote.
Beginning next week a good portion of my time will be devoted to getting people to vote "no" in August to changing the requirements to alter our constitution, and "yes" in November to protecting women's bodies from republicans. I was heartend yesterday while driving through some very rural parts of Lorain County (the county immediately to the west of Cuyahoga (Cleveland) County) to see 3 or maybe even 4 "Vote No On Issue 1" signs to every one I saw that advocated "Yes On Issue 1."

Yeah tbe Ohio issue is an inflection point...if Issue 1 doesn't pass DeWine is going to have a, por of headaches going forward.
You have to admire the hypocrisy of having a majority vote election to decide not to allow majorities make decisions."It's as if the Drumpf Administration is made up of the worst and unfunny parts of the Cleveland Browns, Washington Generals, and the alien Mon-Stars from Space Jam."
