      Color me surprised by this. The legal dorks I follow on the matter thought that he had the best claim of any of the defendants to his his case removed, and that the bar was fairly low. Yet here we are, and by all accounts the DC judge effectively wrote to the 11th circuit, expecting an appeal. So while this isn't over, it's a big early victory for justice.

            It is one of the most interesting aspects of the rightwing bubble that they think the rest of the country is looking at them as a model.

            The rest of the country looks at the red states as a freak show. Those rural inbred populations in NY and CA who are jonesing to move to MS and KS? By all means, please move to them. Let's gather all the rubes under one leaky, freedummy roof. It will make the inevitable and long overdue mitosis that much easier.




            Above: give the purples to red and the stripes to blue. All problems solved. NC and WI might want to think about turning blue but if not, then not.

              I still say the blues need to do a takeover of Utah, Idaho, and at least the Western parts of Wyoming and Montana. The rubes don't deserve it. It wouldn't even have to be hostile necessarily. They are so uneducated that it shouldn't be a stretch to trick them into moving to Kansas or Mississippi.

                I would be willing to have UT in the first world -- it's the most beautiful state in the US by a factor of 73.

                Mormons are totally bizarre but they're actually a successful population. Unique among all conservatives, they are hard working, charitable, and humane. If all of red America were Mormon we'd be able to stay together as a country. They're lunatics, don't get me wrong; their attitudes towards women are iron age nonsense, their theology makes Catholicism look rational, and their founders were obvious con artists. But they actually take care of their poor and homeless, and they aren't moral hypocrites.

                    A theory of why authoritarian backlash is currently so strong.



                    BLUF: the dying generation lashes out at the orientation among the healthy generations towards ascending Maslow needs.

                    They feel their numerical power cratering in terms of what the market of ideas supports -- the public sphere turns away from them with horror. Their brains are dying so they remember the past as paradise. And they are attacked and offended because their learned hatreds, which they associate with mommy and daddy and Jebus, are now publicly exposed and reviled as hatred. Plus, they live in areas segregated to their belief systems, so they wildly overestimate their positions' popularity. They have no idea they are the freaks, not us. They pull out of all normal public interactions like public school, and isolate themselves in a homeschooled, fundy-churched, Echo Chambered bubble.

                    A dead end social group is being sent to bed (forever) and it is throwing a tantrum. The conservative parties are cynically leeching off them to cash in on one more decade of stealing from the middle class to fatten the rich.

                    But the actuarial tables (above) will take care of it. We just need to keep fighting and keep them from destroying the Earth as they die off. Which they are. 3k a day. 21k a week. 1M a year. And each of them is being replaced by a GenZer -- the most tolerant and progressive people in our history.

                      Idaho is where all the Aryan Nation members keep moving to, though. Might be more trouble than it's worth.
