A lot of folks must dislike social security and Medicare. The republicans plans for those are f’ing disgusting. The easy fix to the funding issues those programs face doesn’t involve cutting benefits.

      • The Democrats should be collectively preaching from the rafters what has been accomplished under Biden. There is still a % of the population that is not lost to the GQP and it's enough to make a difference in any election, but they are not getting that message. You can't write them all off as stupid because the only thing that accomplishes is losing seats. Abortion is an important topic but if we're honest it's not at the forefront for percentage voters on the cusp.

This was a lesson learned from 2020, when Republican ads accusing Democrats of wanting to defund the police proved effective, cutting into the Democratic majority in the House. In a memo obtained by NPR and sent in March to candidates in competitive districts, the DCCC encouraged candidates to seek out law enforcement endorsements.

"It is critical that candidates head into their election with at least one active or retired member of law enforcement who can go on the record and speak to their performance on the issues of crime and public safety," the March memo said. "Given the time and resources that this will require, including vetting the validator, preparing them for potential media attention, and scripting and shooting an ad, the time to secure commitments from validators is now."

The memo also implored all candidates in competitive races to have a ready answer for attacks portraying them as soft on crime or out to defund the police.

"One of the things that we found [in 2020] is that the attack on crime, the defund attack, often went unanswered, and that was something we needed to address head on," the DCCC's Jain said.
There's energy, the environment, education, roads and infrastructure, health care, Trump's bull****, guns and crime as well as abortion.

Yes, it should be constant and loud. Dem leaders hate repeating the same basic talking points because they're intelligent and it seems so childish, but 90% of the electorate are ****ing door knobs and they need it rammed into their skulls a thousand times a day every day.

Dems campaign as if the average voter was a sophomore at Penn. Republicans campaign as if the average voter was a 10-year old child of rural blue collar parents who is a little on the slow side. You can see which one works better.

And Republicans have successfully flooded the public discourse with their bullsh*t to own the narrative on education (Librul indoctrination!, Don't Say LGBTQ, Don't Talk About Racism, Pedos!11!1!!, Furries!11!!1), guns (Dems R comin' fer 'em!), crime (Dem = defund the police!), energy (renewables R bad, Dems want to throttle your use!), environment (climate change = hoax, regulations are job killers!), and healthcare (not a right, pay for your own, no public health mandates)

The problem with the GOP talking points is, as dumb as they are, they are going to control the conversation if the Dems just sit back and don't put forward any talking points of their own.

Look, I realize the midterms are always tough for the party of tPOTUS. The guy who came in two years before didn't magically fix everything under the sun, so people's (dumb) reaction is to see him in a negative light. So even members of tPOTUS's party will shy away from mentioning him personally, instead emphasizing accomplishments or issues where they don't have to bring his name up. But at a certain point that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy too. If you get too afraid to point out the things he has accomplished, and pretend he more or less doesn't exist (which is a brilliant strategy when he's also one of most well-known people in the entire world), you're only letting the other side's image of him fill the vacuum. Maybe he doesn't have the honeymoon he did two years ago, but things will only get worse if you let the bad portrayal fill the airwaves.

As others said, you need to be blanketing the airwaves with what has been accomplished. Also don't be afraid to say what you still want to accomplish, what won the WH two years before, but that you need more than razor things margins to get it done. Especially with new issues like abortion that are even more on the radar than they were pre-no-Roe. And while you're at it, point out all of the GOP people who try to take credit for new funding and programs that are only there because the Dems passed them on straight party-line votes where they didn't get a single GOP vote; make it clear you are doing the actual things people want to get done, and that if the voters want to see more of those things, they need to vote for the party doing the things, rather than the ones obstructing the things.

For voters on the cusp, my intuition is:
                  • energy, the environment -- they don't care, these are concerns that are so overdetermining either you are either already long committed or you don't care at all
                  • education -- we have to push back on all the hateful bile and idiocy about CRT and bathrooms to stop a Youngkin Effect
                  • roads and infrastructure, health care -- we need to frame these as "they suck because of GOP roadblocks" and ram the message that the Right is an obstacle to your safety
                  • Dump -- go for the highest stakes thing, 1/6. Remind comfortable middle class sleepers that those numbnuts nearly pulled off a coup
                  • guns and crime -- tie these together, stress that crime is a result of the ubiquity of guns; blame the GOP for crime
                  • abortion -- we need the "too extreme" ads with the foreboding music and the stupid GOP nominee's quote, I've seen these and we should blanket the nation with them
                  And we need to add:
                  • jobs, inflation, the economy -- demonstrate the pure numbers of how well our nation does under D and how sh-tty under R.
                  • stress how the slide of America and the middle class coincides exactly with the rise of Republican fiscal policy
                  • the pandemic -- talk about how Dump and the GOP botched it and killed a million extra people; **** them hard on this

I agree we need to hammer home his accomplishments. I’m doing that here on the micro-level in a state much redder than where anyone else on here lives. What I’m saying is we have, and it doesn’t matter.
Herschel Walker being in a 50/50 race is proof enough for me the average American voter is ****ing stupid.

                        • First of all, all I am seeing is Dems hammering home talking points. If we did a drinking game every time they mentioned SS or Abortion or voting rights in an ad or on a Sunday Morning talk show we would be dead by the time the NFL pregame started...and I go out of my way to avoid all of that crap.

The problem is the laziness of the media. They have completely stopped talking about the issues that matter and are treating every issue exactly how they treated Trump. Its just "HEY A LOUD NOISE TALK ABOUT IT!!!!!!". Think about how much Fetterman using closed captioning was talked about after that interview instead of any substantive issue for that race. How about Herschel Walker and the stupid badges...the media is no longer putting any effort into making sure the populace knows the issues, its all about clickbaiting BS until the cows come home. Meanwhile the GOP is laughing because if people are talking about Walker and his stupid badges they aren't talking about his threatening to kill his wife or the abortions he paid for. If they are mocking Ron Johnson for being laughed at at his debate they aren't talking about how he wants to end Social Security and Medicare. Its a shell game and the media is eating it up because they are a bunch of lazy ****wits worried more about ratings than the truth.

Even worse, is when they do actually talk about issues they don't even pretend to talk about the facts. Like when Pelosi was on with Andrea Mitchell and Mitchell was blaming Biden for not pushing hard enough to codify Roe and you could tell Nancy wanted to punch her when she said "we didn't have the votes...do you think 10 Republicans were going to vote for it inthe Senate?". The media has completely quit on the issues especially abortion because they didn't like the trends when their BS "Dems in Disarray" narrative died thanks to the Supreme Court. So they hammer inflation and crime and ignore the issues for TMZ style reporting. Meanwhile women are dying or risking their lives to save their lives and no one even knows about it. They talk about the social issues or the fights over schools without talking about how the schools are crashing and burning because they have no money and teachers are sick of being legislated to the point they cant even teach basic **** like what racism is for almost no pay so they quit. All we hear about it how the Recession is coming (has been for what 3 years now?) but no one seems to care about unemployment because it is at historic lows. Where is the media pimping all the manufacturing jobs coming back? All we heard from the GOP was how they would do it, the media let them say it for 4 ****ing years, we do it and it is maybe the 3rd story on any news show behind Kanye West saying something racist and Trump holding a rally.

So sorry I dont buy into the rhetoric that the Dems are failing at hammering home the message...the Dems are doing what they can. Short of going door to door in every state what would you have them do? No one watches Press Conferences, they watch the highlights cause they are ****ing lazy. If they go on CNN they end up on a panel with some ****wit GOPer who is allowed to control the conversation with loud yelling and lying and no one stops them. MSNBC no one watches, Faux News is not an option and the local news cares more about the weather and sports scores than the issues. The Fourth Estate has quit, and the populace would rather go on Reddit and whine about how gas costs a dime more than worry about what the future holds. Americans have no long term intelligence anymore. Its all "Right Here, Right Now" and that is it. Forward thinking is non-existent.

Think about the conversation about the crabs in Alaska. That is the perfect example of why our country is failing. No one paid any thought to the fact that if you overfish later on that could cause issues. Just make your money now and let "Future Alaska" deal with the problems.

This is a story about the FBI executing a search warrant on a guy who worked for ABC (who they say hasn't worked there for a while) who apparently had classified information on his personal laptop in his home. (he has fled) They followed proper procedure in obtaining the warrant yet this clown from the Washington Post is making it sound like Biden is going after a media member and raided his home. Again somehow the actions of the FBI, run by a member of the ****ing Federalist Society who was appointed by Trump, is acting as the defacto Gestapo for Biden because...reasons? And this moron isnt on Newsmax or Faux he covers the military beat for the Washington Post.

                            • Reporters always stick together no matter what. It's like when any sportswriter is criticized, for no matter how heinous or godawful a behavior, every sportswriter on earth rallies to their defense like it's New York Times vs Sullivan. It's guild behavior, like when the Fraternal Order defends cops who murder and slander their victims.

The media have an enormous ego. It was bearable when they actually delivered news, but now they are just entertainment (or irritainment) providers, who serve no useful social or democratic role, so their pretenses are pathetic and laughable.

If you have classified material outside of a classified space you know the risks you are taking. Sometimes it's worth it, to torch the vampires with sunlight. But part of the price is doing the time. As icky as he seems to have turned out to be, Snowden knew he had to jet if he was gonna do what he did. He didn't stay in Falls Church and whine about it.
