I worry for gay rights too but I’m a tad more worried about half the population losing control over their body at the Moment

      • There will come a point when we will look back on where we are right now-- at this moment, RIGHT NOW-- and realize that this is the moment when democracy could have been saved and the American experiment could have been salvaged.

And that instead, those in charge decided that messaging on jobs numbers and internet broadband and a war halfway around the world was more important than LITERALLY ANY PERSON IN THE BASE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY having rights.

        You have already failed us.

        It's so damn sad.

What the **** does she live in a cave? Biden could stand up at every PC and say "those guys over there are ****ing traitors and they hate everyone and if you vote for them you are voting for the destruction of this country and thousands of needless deaths and overt poverty" and the entirety of Dem leadership could stand with him and completely shut down the Government in protest to try and "save the American Experiment" and it would not change the fundamental things that prevent such a change from happening.

              1) The Dems don't have the votes. They can't even break the filibuster because people like Joe Manchin are duly elected

              which leads to...

              2) The people are the real ****ing problem. If people actually cared about "saving the American Experiment" they wouldn't vote for people who openly admit they hate Democracy and want to end it. If they cared about Women's Rights or LGBTQ+ Rights or even making sure cops can't murder Black People in Broad Daylight on video they would vote for the party that pretty much runs exclusively on that platform and not a party that is openly hostile to all versions of Equality. If they wanted a Government to be functional, they wouldn't gum up the works every chance they get by either splitting the Government or electing leaders and people who have no intention of governing.

The truth (the type people like her never seem to get) is that most of this country is filled with selfish *****s. (no Kepler, it is not 30%...30% just revel in it and admit it out loud) When things are going well we will make sure to support everything that is great and push for reforms that could make a difference. (BLM and Pride Flags for everyone!!!) But when we are down to our last chip, when the market is sagging and (mostly White) People aren't feeling up to it they will abandon every principle they have to get what is there's. (not all of us mind you, but well more than enough to screw up everything) She pretends that messaging on the jobs numbers is inconsequential...that tells me she doesn't understand the average voter because that lame *** messaging is sadly what wins elections.

And see, if anyone said any of that to her she would deflect, she would say "its voter purges and restrictions!!" or "The media is the problem!1!1" but no, the problem is that voters care more about the Ukraine War than the real fights at home. Voters care more about jobs reports and a Dow Jones Industrial Average they can't even explain than they do about Equality. Voters care more about an extra $20 on their paycheck because of a Tax Break For Billionaires than the fact that at the end of the year they will owe way more than they got back and oh btw their Social Security was gutted, Medicare ripped off and there is no money to fix the roads or help when natural disasters caused by Climate Change ravage half the country. You wanna know why...BECAUSE VOTERS ARE ****ING MORONS!! Because the elected officials we have perfectly represent us just as they were supposed to. (they suck because we as a whole pretty much suck) Even us, as Dem activists, are basically just a whiny owner blaming the refs for why his team lost and ignoring that it was our bad decisions that put the team in that position in the first place. Sometimes we are so up our own azz we might as well be Republicans because we are helping them way more than we are helping us.

You want to know the real American Exceptionalism...it is that we are so arrogant and full of ourselves even now, post Trump, we still can't see how we are the problem. The rest of the world has figured it out (travel abroad and tell me they don't look at us just a little bit different) but yet we are just blind to it. The reason is simple, they have all had their dalliances with this type of disassociated populace and flirtations with Authoritarianism so they see all the telltale signs. We don't, because we are so full of ourselves that we never thought it could happen here. (even though it has been staring us in the face since 9/11) Roe v. Wade is the perfect example...the second Trump got Kavanaugh and ACB on the Court it was over. Many of us were shouted down because we said so...and now half the electorate is acting shocked and appalled over it. I bet Ms. Activist is organizing a Women's March...man that will show them!!

tl;dr: If she wants to fix America so badly, fix Americans. We are the monkey wrench in the machine.

(sorry Scoob...I am just done with vague platitudes and pretending the problem is some rando talking points)

              • And you totally miss her point.

She's saying the administration isn't even talking about the effect this decision will have.

Just like they dont talk about their job numbers, or wage growth, or the $350/month families were getting for each child to help them make better lives for their families, and how the Repubs took that away. Don't talk about any of the policies they've enacted that are helping people.

Basically, what youre always whining about, how the Dems suck at messaging and fighting back. And now you have a Dem who wants them to do that, and you whine about that too.

Tell us your great plan for fixing Americans.

                Jesus ****ing Christ.

                • Tell me, why should people vote for Democrats if those Democrats won't fight for the policies they supposedly believe in?

Just throw up their hands and say, "well, we tried, but its just not gonna happen. Manchin, or Mitch, (or whatever excuse they pick) just won't allow it to happen. Nothing we can do. You gotta vote for more of us".

You know what that says? That says "we're weak," and its too hard, and requires too much work, so we're not even gonna try.

And they want you to vote for more people like that? And you think Americans are the problem cause they won't?

                  Jesus.

They'll hold their little "abortion rights" vote theater show, have it go down in flames, shrug, say, "see, we tried. We fought for yoooouuuuu!!!!" and then not do another single damm thing to try to change things.

And still whine cause you wont vote for them hard enough.

                      • My personal opinion as to why abortion, and the upcoming decision, aren't the subject of a national discussion is that for the vast majority of citizens, abortion is nothing more than an abstract concept.

Women of a childbearing age make up what, maybe 20% of the U.S. population? Of that 20%, how many of them will get an abortion during their lives? Has to be less than 5% of that 20% doesn't it? So, what is that, less than 1% of the population? Sure, their family members might be tangentially affected, but still.

It's obviously way more than an abstract concept to a woman who is in a position to consider an abortion, but you could have 99% of the population sitting there, reading this draft decision and thinking that it will never affect them one way or the other anyway.

Good or bad, that's sort of how a lot of people are going to look at it.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

I certainly share the frustration here, but 30% of good is better than 100% of bad, isn't it (numbers are exact and totally not made up)? I kind of feel like the "what's the difference" coming from our left flank is counter-productive and only stands to help the fascists in a realpolitik way.
I gotta little bit of smoke and a whole lotta wine...

Sure. But that 30% can at least get in the fight, show some balls, make an effort. Show that they at least care. Give people a reason to vote for them.

I'm just tired of this entire Democrat excuse making of, "unless we have 60 Senators, there's nothing we can do". And since they don't have 60 senators, and are bound to fail, they don't even try.

What did they do when Obama was president and they had 60 senators? Did they pass an abortion rights bill then? No. Because they were scared of being called Baby-killers if they did, they didn't want to face any of the flak they might have gotten.

That's the story of the Democrats. Gutless. Too afraid to take a stand on anything. Because the Republicans might attack them for it. Meanwhile, they're getting attacked anyway, and still don't dare to do anything about it. Has any Democrat at all taken to the media and denounced any Republican at all for their role in 1/6? Other than in the most mealy-mouthed manner? When every single Democrat in office should be doing that every single day.

How is the average American who doesn't pay any attention to this ****, the ones Handy wants to smarten up, supposed to know that our very democracy in under threat, supposed to understand the gravity of that threat, if no Democrats are out there laying the exact threat out for them?

Like Republicans do every time they're in front of a camera.
What kind of cheese are you planning to put on top?
