(unless you are being sarcastic...in which case we need emoticons back)
In the new survey, 29% of voters who lean Republican said they were extremely enthusiastic to vote this November. Just 20% of voters who lean Democratic said the same thing.
Four years ago at this point, 27% of voters who leaned Democratic were extremely enthusiastic compared with 21% who leaned Republican. Democrats would go on to win back the US House in 2018.
So why does the national environment still favor Republicans? It's not because voters are in favor of overturning Roe. (Our poll shows voters are overwhelmingly against doing so.) Nor is it because Americans trust Republicans on abortion. (Our poll indicates Americans see their views as closer to Democrats' on abortion by double digits.)
The answer lies in what I wrote about earlier this week: the economy. Many more Americans (46%) said they viewed Republicans as closer to their position on the economy than Democrats (31%). The GOP's 15-point lead on this question is critical given that 50% of Americans put the economy as the top issue facing the country, according to the April 28-May 1 CNN poll.
As much as Democrats wish it wasn't the case, their electoral hopes will go down the drain if Americans continue to see the economy the way they do now and it remains a top problem in voters' minds come November. This is probably true regardless of how the Supreme Court ultimately rules on abortion.

That's not the reason. The reason is the Right gives its base something to fight for: raw, red meat. Passion. A direct and unambiguous message.
The Center, by definition, is wishy-washy. At its best that is because it is judicious, but in the realm of politicians it is because it is tentative, compromising, CYAing, and insincere. And that flop sweat comes off them and the voters smell it. Nobody is going to be inspired by Biden, Schumer, and Pelosi. Insiders may be very impressed by their process acumen: I think Nancy Pelosi is one of the most talented House strategists of all time. But elections turn on the common herd who respond to emotions, and to them the Dems offer worse than nothing, as when true passion in the form of a Bernie rises the circular firing squad goes into action while the Worry Bead Brigade cries that if we just once campaign on our real values and ambitions for this country we will be destroyed by Middle America.
Well, Middle America is already destroying us. The key to Democratic majorities is inspiring action to magnetize voters in the cities and in communities of color, and that means radical economic redistribution.
Paradoxically, the only way Handy and dx and other Centrists can get what they want is to have a Democratic candidate whom they would oppose, because of the windfall of voters from the Left that would release. Would the result be actual radical Left policy? No -- it took the Radical Right FORTY years to achieve what they have. But it would rebalance American politics back to the Center. As it is, we have Democrats voting for what they are comfortable with: a cautious and careful Centrism, against Republicans voting for the most extreme possible incarnation of their policies. Democrats negotiate by opening with their final position, while Republicans open with infinity.
Dems have to learn to open with infinity. It's the only way to stop the bleeding, assuming their last half century of dicking around has not already sunk us.
If you want a Center country, join me on the Cuckoo Fringe Left. Why TF else do you think I'm out here? I'm rich for **** sake. I don't want The Terror any more than you do (Bezos excepted). But that's not the problem at hand and it won't be for decades. The problem at hand is fascism not just at the door but literally inside the house.
Every one of you morons ought to be forming your own local Jacobin club, just to fight the Birchers.

Likewise, we can use abortion as a powerful single issue to get every woman with a working brain between 18 to 28 to vote Democratic out of pure self-preservation, while also putting out a menu of economic, fiscal, and ethical policies to pull in others.
There is no magic bullet. We have to use many tools. But we can. My god, the Right married fundamentalist, literalist dogmatic Christianity to vicious, unrestrained Capitalism, the most unChristian economic philosophy the world has ever known. Coalitions happen.

I wish I could find the link, but despite the fact the majority of Americans support legalized abortion there's a good % of even women that do not see it as their #1 issue right now. How many women ever have an abortion in the U.S.? Less than 1 in 4 right?
There's a plethora of reasons to nail the GQP to their own cross.

All I'm saying is the tea leaves coming from non-fascist sources far more astute than I am are saying that yes RvW massively matters, but that along with CRT and forgiving student loan debt are not going to Jumpstart a movement to shut down the mouthe-breathers this November.
Disagree if you want.

what I’m saying is if every woman who doesn’t have an abortion doesn’t think this of the utmost importance, they are dumber than I thought

Plus, even if 75% of women never have an abortion:
(1) many of their daughters, sisters, and friends will,
(2) every woman worries about the risks of unwanted pregnancy, and
(3) many people actually empathize with other people and do not want them harmed.
I'll never have an abortion but I am still 100% committed to the right and see protecting women from these monsters as my #1 issue. If 51% of the planet facing being enslaved doesn't turn your crank I'm not sure what will.Cornell University
