Teams have been without grey before, like the powder blue era and the Padres sand jerseys, but this has gotta be a first for the modern era where a team doesn’t have a road-only jersey. The Astros basically wore red every road game their last couple years in the NL, but they still wore it at home as well. The last paragraph of the article makes it sound like the M’s won’t be alone in this, though. The Padres are wearing brown as their road jersey and rumors that the Rays will get rid of grey too.
The Cubs rarely if ever wear their road greys anymore, which sucks because they're classic and they feature the NL logo on one sleeve. Though they don't even wear their home pinstripes as much anymore, either. It seems like they're in their alternate blue jerseys 100+ times per year.

    • The Twins wear their dark blue a lot too. Sometimes red when they had them. But, grays were in the rotation at least. Hope they use them a lot this year as they brought the pinstripes back.

The thing that seems to throw this off is the Spring Training jersey counting as one. Some teams use alts, other teams just use BP jerseys. Until a couple years ago the Yankees and Tigers just used their normal ones at ST.

Someone made a list and these are the other teams that will need to cut a jersey:

Arizona - likely cut 1 of 2 white jerseys
Philly - hopefully they cut the red. They have the same issue as the Angels going red on red letters.
Pittsburgh - likely cut camo or go to one black jersey
San Diego - either already cut grey or are dropping a camo
Washington - another team with multiple white jerseys
Texas - hopefully cut the red and leave the grey, blue, and powder blue.
Toronto - their dark blue and powder blue are both up there as best in the league, so that leaves them with the Canada red alt or the grey to cut.

Minnesota was on the list before getting new ones this year.

This doesn't include the one-off jerseys, right?

Correct. City Connect get their own slot. From what I’ve gathered this wasn’t an MLB rule, but more of a Nike rule.

What I’m not sure on are other one-offs like the World Series champ wearing gold numbers for the opening game, Boston’s Patriot Day, or any other single-team single-game uniforms.

Only the A's need a Sunday jersey. Everybody else should wear white home and grey road.

No, that's fancy dress. There's nothing modern or progressive about extra jerseys. It's just the vampire squid cleaning out fools' wallets.
