If you schedule like the NFL you'd get

6 games vs other 12 teams in your league = 72
6 games vs one other division in the other league = 24 (96)
    #18 games vs your own division = 54 (150)
*4 games vs 1 team in each of the other league divisions = 12 (162)

    # from the trading deadline to the end of the season, play only in your division.

    * Dvision AL East 1 would play NL Central 1, NL South 1 and NL Pacific 1.

Postseason -- just division winners qualify
    Seed by record within league.
    DS 3/5 CS & WS 4/7.

There -- now find me 2 expansion cities.

    • They're changing the schedule next year to be a little more balanced.

I believe it's reduced from 18 games to 14 against your own division. (56 games)
6 against every other team in your league (60)
3 against all but one interleague team (42)
4 against your interleague rival (4)

          With 4x8, no interleague, I would play 12x7 + 6x8 = 84 + 48 = 132 game RS.

I personally would wipe out the WC and go back to just the division winners, but let's throw the morons a bone and have 2 WC. LSF, LCS, and WS best of 7.

          Your franchise changes are:

          (1) move Miami to Montreal
          (2) move Tampa to Charlotte
          (3) add Las Vegas to NL
          (4) add Mexico City to NL

I don't mind reducing the division schedule. The AL East has been beating up on each other for a decade now while one okayish team in the Central runs it up on one average and three terrible teams and gets a playoff spot with 90 wins. Although this new schedule doesn't mean the Tigers will see the Jays or Yanks more, just that they'll see the whole NL every year.

As for your expansion cities, they're going to be based on what happens to a couple teams. I think there are four cities up for grabs: Las Vegas, Montreal, Nashville, and one of the two metros in Carolina, whether that be Charlotte or Raleigh. I don't see a scenario where Vegas doesn't get a team. Arizona was rumored to be looking to move there, but they just got a renovation tax passed for Chase Field, so looks like they're staying. Oakland is all but following the Raiders there, but we'll have to see if the stadium negotiations get a Hail Mary save. The other team that will have an effect are the Rays. The split season plan got squashed by MLB, but with the Tropicana Field lease ending in 2027 they don't appear any closer to a stadium deal than they were before. MLB is likely waiting to see how the Oakland and Tampa stadium situations end first before giving out expansion teams. Personally, I think we're going to see the Las Vegas A's and the new edition of the Montreal Expos.

If that ends up happening, bring in Nashville and Carolina for 32 teams. I think somewhere else in this thread I had divisional alignments that would work for a set up like this, but now that I'm doing a quick run through in my head, some teams are going to have to switch leagues or there's going to be some weird team pairings going to eight divisions of four teams.

            • Relocations: Oakland to Vegas, Tampa to Montreal
Expansions: Carolina (NL) and Nashville (NL)
League moves: Colorado and Milwaukee to the AL, Montreal to the NL

AL East: BAL, BOS, NYY, TOR
AL North: CLE, CHW, DET, MIL
AL Central: HOU, KC, MIN, TEX
AL West: LAA, LV, SEA, COL

NL East: NYM, MTL, PHI, WSH
NL South: ATL, CAR, MIA, NSH
NL Central: CIN, CHC, STL, PIT
NL West: AZ, LAD, SF, SD

This kind of messes with interleague rivals. The entire NL South is without natural rivals and it moves others like MIN-MIL to the same league. Would likely just end up going the protected rivalry route for some teams to maintain the home and home series and other teams would rotate each year.

                8 teams! 154 game schedule! The good old days! 7 x 22!!

But the networks love interleague (Subway series, North v South sides, etc.) play.

I can't decide if I like em or hate then. I love me the occasional burst of color like that. But theres just something off about them. I just don't know what it is.

                      • The Padres' citi connect are pathetic.

                        The good ones so far:
                        • Colorado, if they lose the onesy pants and go to white.
                        • Washington, for the cherry blossoms.

I hated them when they were unveiled, but they looked pretty good on the field. Only issue I have with them is San Diego being two toned. If they made it pink or green it would be better, but there’s something off about the 50/50 split.
