Not sure if it was his idea, but his best seasons (and sole World Series title) were with the Diamondbacks.

    • I love it when they replay the classics.

Mets deal with Raymel Ortiz, the #26 player in the 2024 international prospect class according to
@MLBPipeline , fell through because of player age falsification.

It’s also who he was with when killed the bird. Case closed.

        • Haha good lord, checked Reddit. A cardinals fan started a thread about now that Mauer is in, what about pedroia?

pedroia, the second basemen. It’s a bonkers comparison but another cards fan who can’t grasp that Mauer got in. Nevermind that Joe crushes him in almost every category, he did it as a catcher. Someone theorized that maybe these are younger people who simply don’t remember Joe at his prime.

          • Considering Cardinals fans elevated David Eckstein to God-tier status, I'm not surprised.

Plus, counting post-season, he had 123 wins for Arizona, 132 for Seattle. Such a small difference that his post-season success with Arizona likely carried the day. Plus, four of his five Cy Young awards came in Arizona, iirc.

That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

                I liked that guy, TBH.

Every fanbase is afflicted with homerism, and it gets worse as the place gets smaller. This should be called College Town Syndrome.

You are who brings you up unless there is an enormous difference (e.g., Ryan).

Hernandez is a Cardinal. Carter is an Expo. I don't wanna hear it.

Wasn't Johnson brought up by the Expos? Or am I thinking of someone else?

                    • I would be upset if Verlander chose the Astros over the Tigers.

Yea, he came up through Montreal's system and got a handful of starts with the parent club before being traded to Seattle early in the 1989 season.

Pedro Martinez is another big name from that era to come up the ranks with Montreal though too, so you may have been thinking of him as well.

Dawson wants his plaque changed to the Cubs.

Well, Verlander only gets to provide input. It's the HoF's senior staff and historians who ultimately make the call.
