  • I don't say this often but Barr was right. The sentence was only like 10 years. That would have done nothing to help the situation.

Now...that isn't the worst idea because he is going to be nailed for the fraud stuff too most likely. Also it needs to be backed up by pleas from all the rest as well.

If you ask them off the record I would bet they are.

Well who would want to admit they aren't qualified and risk their big budgets? It is like "term limits" or stopping raises for politicians. Sure retired pols and people outside of politics love them...but no one is going to vote themselves out of job or less pay.

C'mon, you know all those people could be making far more in the private sector.

At least that's what they tell me. Makes you wonder why they fight so hard to hold on to the job they have.
What kind of cheese are you planning to put on top?

                • I can't believe anybody wants Exjock McDerp in a situation requiring mental health expertise or indeed anything more nuanced than swinging a blackjack.

We really have to detach these parasites from public funding, both police and military. Welfare for dopes is all well and good, but don't give the dopes weapons.

                  • Nice.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is investigating a Valentine’s Day-style image mocking the death of George Floyd that was allegedly shared among department employees.

The image included a photo of Floyd with the caption “You take my breath away,” according to multiple reports.

                      • Here is a question for uno, since I think he has said that either he or his wife have been involved in some defense work at some point.

The cops in the George Floyd case have asked for a dismissal due the leak of information regarding Derek Chauvin's supposed willingness to plead guilty last summer.

Obviously, for any prospective juror, that has to be something that sticks in the back of their minds. Is this a motion that has any chance at all of getting granted?
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

Leak of info to who? The general public? Not a chance.
To jurors in the middle of trial? Possibly grounds for a mistrial depending on how prejudicial the judge thinks the disclosure was, but again not a chance for dismissal.

I think the accusation is that it was leaked directly to the media.

I was just curious. I know there is a general rule that settlement discussions in civil cases, and plea discussions in criminal cases, are not admissible into evidence. That sort of seems obvious to me. However, I am curious how judges will handle it when they are "introduced" in a different way, such as leaks to the press.
