    It’s telling how many bootlickers will take the police report as gospel and yet there is often errors on even basic facts. Taylor wasn’t even hit by the bullets according to the police report.

    I remember when I had an accident, was deemed at fault and given a ticket by the officer, and the report filed had basic facts wrong like the conditions, the number of lanes and even the speed limit.

    How can police be trusted if even basic facts are wrong?

            The thing that really bothers me is it wasn’t a corrupt official choosing to not press charges. This was a grand jury. I just don’t get it.

              A competent DA can indict a ham sandwich...so the DA screwed up.

                    Um.

                    The Pineville Police Department says the officer who was allegedly ambushed on Sunday night actually shot himself.

                    PPD says the officer, identified as John Goulart Jr., shot himself, concealed his weapon, and altered the facts.

                    Goulart Jr. has been charged with one count of criminal mischief for filing the false police report and one count of malfeasance in office for creating that falsehood while wearing a Pineville police uniform. He has been booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center and his bond will be set by a Rapides Parish District Judge. He has also been placed on administrative leave.

                    PPD says Goulart Jr. originally claimed he was shot once in the leg and a second shot hit the rear door of his police unit while he was at a shopping center at the corner of Military Highway and Donahue Ferry Road.

                    Don Weatherford, Pineville’s Police Chief, said about the investigation, “We had no reason originally to question what he was telling us was accurate. As it progressed, that evidence gives you some pretty clear direction and it led us to re interviewing officer Goulart Jr. and he admitted at that point that he had not been truthful with us during the investigation."

                                As someone who's been in that setting before, and as I pointed out in a post a couple of pages back earlier this week ... no one outside a grand jury will ever know the full details of the incident better than the grand jury itself. It's what a prosecutor uses to determine what kind of charge(s) s/he can make stick beyond a reasonable doubt in front of a real live criminal jury.

                                Whether you want to admit it or not, the real "problem" is most likely that the reporting and media narrative upon which many folks are deriving their opinions were faulty. WAY off.

                                I don't live or work in Minnesota, so I can't comment with as much certainty on how they handle pre-trial charging of criminal suspects. Cursory Internet research says grand juries are used. And if those operate anywhere close to how they do in most other states, mark my words, you guys are going to be in for a shock on what happens on the Officer Chauvin case, because the grand jury will see stuff most of us will never see (example below). And then you can wonder the same way about how it went down in Kentucky OR come to some disappointing conclusions about how crappy modern day journalism has become.

                                FWIW I suspect Chauvin will either plead to lesser charges OR will be tried for lesser charges. If the DA tries to charge this as Murder One, they're going to have a tough time. Unless the DA and a jury of 12 see something I don't. JMHO.
