More importantly, all the sites and studies point out that if you are using a cloth mask, it should be cleaned and dried every single day. Just like cpap machines. This isn't rocket science- just obvious common sense. Masks get dirty just like your underwear. They need cleaned, otherwise you get infected. The conclusion of the study is NOT to avoid masks, but to use disposable masks vs cloth masks in hospital settings. It's interesting to draw the conclusion that cloth masks are dangerous given the constraints of the study.

And it should be clearly noted that you will not get infected with virus that is spreading around, unless you are hanging out with a lot of infected people, and the amount of virus builds up over time so much that it makes its way through the mask. Still- instead of getting infected in one day of exposure, that would take multiple days of exposure AND a lack of cleaning the mask. Also, what you get infected with is a bacteria based NOT THE VIRUS. That's noted in the study. Cleaning it every day cleans that off.

And single use masks should be used exactly one time.

In the end, the risk of some kind of infection due to dirty and unkept masks vs. the benefit of not spreading the virus. Yea- New York City's study clearly demonstrates that the mask benefit for this virus is clearly a better choice.

Still- CLEAN YOUR MASK EVERY DAY. Or change it.

Interesting that he seems to note some issue with cloth mask, healthy people wearing them, ect. But then of course that acknowledgement is immediately followed up with a political statement to override acknowledging any possible consequence of mask wearing.

Sometimes for sh*ts and giggles one can replace the words “COVID-19” with “AIDS” then imagine how the righty tighty whiteys would react. In this instance I use AIDS instead of HIV on purpose due to their freak out in the 80’s and how revolted they were when it was mentioned.
Even better, replace the debate of use of a face mask with a condom......Bet the “hoax” talk, “price of doing business “ talk would disappear in trumpyland and on fox....National emergency to the highest levels. Infection and mortality rates skyrocketing......Your fox headlines.

These frauds in charge now would mandate condoms or probably even outlaw sex, except for white baptists screwing in the missionary position.

This post gave me such a visceral reaction. I was working when HIV/AIDs was first identified. One of my good friends from college was the John Doe who sued the BAA when they fired him after they found out he had tested positive. Until they passed the right laws we had to find ways for people to be tested in a way that kept them safe from being fired, excluded from health insurance, etc. People were willing to do just about anything to isolate someone who tested positive. It was awful because there was instant judgement (Almost every case in my patient load was not from risky behaviour). THinking back, I guess you could see the mask think coming if you think of it. We knew how to prevent yet churches actively worked to prevent distribution of condoms. One of the local City Council members physically assaulted one of my patients for handing out information about condoms and prevention. There was a group of very vocal people who did everything they could to judge but not prevent. This really is no different. the vast majority of people would prefer smart and safe behaviour. The small vocal minority is on the soapbox being very, very stupid. Difference this time is it can kill them. HIV/AIDs they could feel fairly safe if they didn't have sex.

So mask question. There are many studies over many years about healthy people wearing masks can actually lead to illness itself.

So what do we do about that? The vast majority of people are not going to have Covid. But requiring everyone in a country of 330 million people is surely going to have some unintended consequences. Especially cloth masks.
