GenZers (Left to Liberal) are replacing Boomers (Moderate to Right). That is a big change.

Gen X was Moderate and Millenials Liberal, but GenZers seem to see through the whole thing and are sincerely Left. The last time the American economy fell apart because of wild rightwing-driven inequality, we got the New Deal.

One-third of voters were Millenial or younger in 2020.

In 2040 that number will be two-thirds.

    The Nazis are, literally, dying.

I don't necessarily think Maher and Barrymore getting their other employees back to work that aren't WGA union members is such a bad thing. It's a complicated issue. And I think this is what handy is also saying.
I understand that it can be complicated. But one thing we really need to do is unionize the entire workforce again. Otherwise management can play that sort of human shield game.

6ixtynin9 from Thailand on Netflix. The title is misleading. A young woman finds a package that was incorrectly left at her door due to a mishap with apartment numbers. Chaos ensues. Smartly done in only 6 episodes.

Plenty of people are. The same people attacking Barrymore (rightfully) use the podcast with the late night hosts that is being done in lieu of their shows as a counterpoint to attack Drew and Bill. Three of those hosts crossed last time. Get out of your bubble man.

    Who is applauding them?

    That's whataboutism.

I'm not calling Maher a strikebreaker -- I am aware talk show hosts are not in the WGA (although with Maher it is murkier, because apparently he does still have writing credits on the show). I'm saying he didn't respect the picket line. Part of supporting labor is not to cross the line even when it's not your line. That is kind of the entire point of a labor movement: the recognition that management cuts us up into slices and dominates us that way, and organization and a united front are our strongest weapon to protect what little we have. I protect you today, you protect me tomorrow.

They didn't even list us overdue for a week. Very first light, Chief, sharks come cruisin'. So we formed ourselves into tight groups. Y'know, it's kinda like ol' squares in a battle like, uh, you see in a calendar, like the Battle of Waterloo, and the idea was, shark comes to the nearest man and that man, he'd start poundin' and hollerin' and screamin', and sometimes the shark'd go away. Sometimes he wouldn't go away. Sometimes that shark, he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. Y'know the thing about a shark, he's got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be livin', until he bites ya. And those black eyes roll over white, and then... oh, then you hear that terrible high-pitch screamin', the ocean turns red, and spite of all the poundin' and the hollerin', they all come in and they rip you to pieces.

I'm not defending Maher or Barrymore, but it is not black and white how talk shows are covered under the WGA and it is disingenuous to pretend that many of the people we applaud now didn't do the same thing in 2008. Conan, Leno, Letterman, Stewart, Colbert, Ferguson and Maher all went back to work without writers in the last WGA strike in 2008.

The rules governing talk shows are murky and there are other considerations. Conan went back (and I assume the others) for much the same reason Barrymore was going to...other people who work on the show not in the WGA who will be out of work. Not exactly fair to them to take money out of their pockets because the writers are on strike.

Ironically last time Maher was one of the last to come back (probably due to normal schedule) now he is one of the first. He won't have to worry about ayer the strike cause no writer will want to work with him after the crap he spewed.

It's like coming back from summer after freshman year and getting new roommates. Last year was great. It won't be the same, for better or worse.
