[edit] Just finished E3 and I was wrong there were only 3 and not sure how many more there will be, but it got slightly better and I guess I'll continue even if it means having to see more footage of Reagan.
There are actually four episodes, aren't there (assuming it's the same series I watched last night.)

I liked the series, primarily for two reasons. First, the talking heads included most of the major players in the events, from a number of the hostages, to the leaders of the students who overtook the embassy, to Abolhassan Banisadr, the first President of Iran elected after the revolution.

The second thing that was interesting to me was the perspective of those players, now looking back 40+ years.

I thought it was pretty well done, but that's just my two cents.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

    • Just watched the latest episode of Great British Bakeoff. People in this country need to get over themselves. That was not racist, cultural appropriation, or whatever else they're trying to claim it was.

While British people not knowing how to say pico de gallo or tortilla properly grates the ears a bit, that's not racism. And yeah, the showstoppers generally butchered a tres leche cake, but that's what happens when you ask people to make things they aren't familiar with.

None of the people complaining this week complained about Italian week last season, or other cultural dishes over the years.

The one thing I despise most in discussions of cultural identity is food. 100% of food is "culturally appropriated". Not most, not the vast majority, all.

You don't have creole without influences from like eight regions. You don't have BBQ without three or four. You don't have McDonald's without two or three. You don't have New American without dozens.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a white person writing a book about noodles if that person can make good noodles. Or hell, even bad noodles. Food is not owned by anyone.

What about the dinner I had in Scotland? a Frenchman cooked me haggis with neeps & tatties. It was ****ing spectacular. It had both Scottish and French influences and it was great!

Cultural appropriation would be a white person writing a book on noodles and saying the Brits or Americans invented them.

Regarding pronunciations, even that's a load of ****. I think it's funny more than disrespectful (though, I haven't seen the episode yet, so context is important). Geographies with different spoken languages may not even be able to pronounce something, physically. There are morphemes and sounds in the German language that we as Americans almost certainly cannot make with our mouths without learning how to move our lips, tongue, and every other mechanism used to produce sounds. As an example.

which isn't to say we can't try to get it right. If you pronounce it "gallow" that's probably not ideal. But as long as it's not done maliciously it's not that bad. That's kind of how languages are created anyways. I mean, etymology is basically a study of bad pronunciation.

            • Marvel's WEREWOLF BY NIGHT:

              I give it a solid A.

It's a Marvel take on 1930's horror. Michael Chacinno did an excellent job of capturing the core elements that made those original monster movies gems. The entire show is an homage to those. I also give him credit to using modern gore, but masking it with the movie being shot in Black & White. By far the goriest corner of the MCU so far. At just an hour long, Chacinno did a good job of making you care about the characters. Marvel also didn't skimp on the creation of Man-Thing. The VFx did a great job of bringing him to life.

Check it out if you want something different in the spooky category this Halloween season.

              • Season finale of She-Hulk was a lot of stupid fun, and was really on point for those too dense to getting the point throughout the rest of the season. All subtly removed.

                    • Star Wars Andor - There’s nothing ooh-ahh about this show other than there has been mostly solid acting, and the story feels genuine and not shoehorned into being fan service. The first season is halfway through its run, so I’m holding hope for that to continue. It’s really been very un-Disneyish in that regards.

Yup, this season is set in the 90’s, so basically where everything hit the fan.

It’s hilarious because this was always going to be a season where everyone looks bad.
