I mean with his 0.49 ERA deGrom still managed to get one loss and one no decision.

I'm not saying it's inevitable, but I would not be surprised.

Among some of the other fun things deGrom did tonight:

+ retired the final 19, none hitting the ball hard
+ 15 K, career high (didn't K anybody in the final 2 innings) with no walks
    + 50 K in first 4 starts of the season, all-time MLB record (breaks Ryan's 49)
+ Nearly threw his 100th pitch over 100 mph (if anybody else ever did this it's gotta be Ryan)
+ 2 hits including a double, 2 RBI, hit another hard liner right to the CF, got the final put out of the game on an acrobatic catch of a 3-1 ground out

It was pure fun. And we finally gave him run support so he could actually enjoy it.
Ryan wasn't a fireballer to that extent I didn't think. Randy Johnson on the other hand.

In MLB history, the highest adjusted ERA+, which accounts for ballpark and league factors, was 293 by Tim Keefe in 1880. Pedro Martinez set the modern record with a mark of 291 in 2000. An average ERA+ is, by definition, 100.

            Jacob deGrom's adjusted ERA+ is currently 1,245.

It was later in the game (I want to say in the 8th?). The documentary "Fastball" examines all the years of radar guns and the fastball, MIT people adjusted for different measurements and such. Outstanding documentary.

Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.
