That could be terrible. TV announcers don't describe the game very well.

Apparently some NHL teams have already started doing this.

Announcers could shift their style to a more radio-style broadcast, but there are so many instances throughout a game where they reference replays or segments that are reliant on graphics that I don't see how it will be a good experience.

Still not as bad as when the A's announced they were going to go streaming-only for radio. But they eventually reversed that decision.

Pretty much all north American sports are becoming unwatchable anymore because of TV and specifically the ever increasing and lengthening commercial breaks.

Hockey was not meant to have media timeouts, now they're even present in the USHL and NCAA. But they aren't present in overtime, which is why a full 20 minute OT can be played in about 30 minutes instead of the 45 minutes that is standard during regulation.

Baseball has 17 natural commercial breaks, but they've doubled or even trebled in length in the last couple decades, even for pitching changes.

College football used to be a 2.5 hour event. These days a non-OT game can take almost 4 hours.

College basketball's media timeouts aren't horrible unless it's an ESPN game, because they go from 90 seconds to 150 seconds in that case.

I really wonder if live audiences will ever revolt as sports cater more and more to the television audience to the detriment of the live experience.

If the NFL has taught us anything, that answer would be no.

Yeah, that's horrible. The TV announcers are wall to wall ads and bullsh-t. Think about ESPN's coverage of MLB. I literally swap in my radio broadcast for them.

GKR are amazing for the Mets but I don't know of any other broadcasting team for TV I could stand to listen to. The Mariners' TV team is unlistenable and they are considered good.

Man on second to start extras nullified the entire 2020 season. It didn't happen, it was all exhibition games.

(And yes, the American League has been playing exhibition games since 1973.)

                            • Fun stat of the day...

The World Series has been contested 116 times. Cleveland has won it 2 times in 116 attempts (or approximately 1.7% of the time). If Cleveland continued to win at that clip, and the Yankees never won another World Series, Cleveland would match the Yankees' 27 World Series titles in the year 3471...or only 1450 years from now. The Angels would match the Yankees in 3555. : - )
