  • After listening to the Lincoln Project podcast about vote counting, I'm 90% expecting the election to be decided by the courts. The worst thing I heard which I hadn't already been aware of, is that the Trump campaign has already recruited "poll watchers" to invade every democratic-voting precinct in the country to verbally challenge EVERY absentee ballot signature on the chance to slow things down enough to give the courts a month or two to make the call, and 2) to get every ballot possible thrown out in those precincts because of imperfect signature matches etc. Keep in mind that while this is perfectly "legal", sometimes the signatures they are comparing to the one on your ballot can be 30 or 40 years old. Meanwhile the Dumpie worshippers have been trained to think that absentee voting is un-American, so their in-primate votes will all be eagerly tallied up by the complicit cable news on November 3, giving the buffoon a huge lead and ammunition to argue that the courts should just stop the "fraudulent" count.
So... vote anyway, I guess? But the voters won't decide the election.

I'm surprised nobody has successfully challenged the poll watchers as being what they obviously are. I don't know what Roberts would rule. On the one hand, intimidation of voters is clearly illegal and unconstitutional. On the other hand, it could help keep the heists rolling. But I'm surprised we haven't seen this go to SCOTUS. And I'm surprised there haven't been a flood of laws in the civilized states making this Nazi crap illegal, even as red states embrace it.

If Biden wins by 12 it will be over Election Night.

If Biden wins by 8 it will be dragged through the courts for weeks if not months.

If Biden wins by 4 it will be stolen again.

The monkey wrench in the works is a huge disparity between R's voting day-of, and D's voting absentee (thanks to Dump's scare tactics and meddling). I don't give him enough credit to have realized it ahead of time (it was probably either the "Jared" or "Stephen" android that output the strategy), but day-of votes are always, for some reason, counted before they start counting absentee votes, which this year will be 50% of them, and 75% of Biden's votes.
In other words, no matter what, Trump will be up by more than 12% at midnight November 3. Anything that happens after that is just "thugs, rioters, and looters - along with Chinese ballot-printing operations, no doubt - trying to overturn your election."

                • I dont think half the votes cast will be absentee...they started the USPS purge too early for that. Also remember that plenty of states use mail in voting anyways so they are out in front of this. Those states will start sorting out the mail in votes as soon as they arrive and will count them like they always do. People showed during the primaries that they care enough to show up and wait in line with masks on if needed.

Personally I vote early in person (cause my state allows that...all states should) so I have minimal contact with people anyways so I will vote in person and Trump and DeJoy can suck it.

We have the option of drop-off ballot boxes here so I'll use that. Allows me to a) do it early, b) avoid crowds, and c) be sure the election board got it.

The point is the ideals are a good way to live and govern. If Jefferson and Washington were slave owners, then Jefferson and Washington were flawed people. Just like every hero has been. I'm sure MLK was a raging homophobe. People are a product of their times and places.

The idea is to reach for better -- perfect will always be impossible. To see the injustice that we can and correct it. Then we can lie down in our graves and sleep the sleep of the just. Others will come after and judge us by their standards, and doubtless find us wanting. But we will have done what we could. This is not idealism, it is pragmatism.

I don't want to burn it all down, that way almost never works. The bones of this country and our traditions, even if honored in the breach, are sound. Certainly there are many better places to live now, where people are more free, have better lives, and more human dignity, but so much the better -- we have models to emulate now, we don't have to be pioneers like Franklin and Madison.

Revolutions almost always cause massive pain for the common people while the as-sholes who were responsible for the sins of the old regime skate. And even in those rare instances when they are caught and punished, bloodshed typically just expands in ever-widening circles and drowns the innocent. Robespierre and Lenin and Mao and Mugabe were great liberators. Until they weren't. Instead, we need to be FDR or Mandela: they evolved the existing system and improved it radically. Their changes are real and lasting.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with America that a long, long run of radical Left reforms can't fix. But you can't use dynamite in a surgery.
The difference between your view and my view is thus: You view the foundations of America as ideal and sound. I view the foundations of America as racist and plutocratic. They are not worth saving if we want actual progress, because the system is designed to stop progress for as long as possible (the only two real moments of progress in this country came after a civil war and an economic meltdown, and they both didn’t do nearly enough as they should have).

In all honestly, in regards to the Constitution, only the First and Third Amendments are worth saving. Every other piece needs to be overhauled.

I'm guessing this may differ state by state?

Could be overlooking something, but a brief overview of the Michigan challenge laws appear to show that you cannot challenge the actual signature. You can challenge that an absentee voter does not belong to that voting district, but it looks like the clerk determines the validity of the signature.

The law also says that you need "good reason" to challenge, and that you cannot challenge for the purpose of delaying or annoying voters. Surely a challenge on every single ballot would fall under that umbrella.
