  • Everything I've heard about her from people that work/have worked with her is that she's an absolutely terrific leader and the right person for the job, now that Baker is bowing out (or, more accurately, has been defenestrated by the state GQP).

Only to a point. Conservatives and liberals both NIMBY their neighborhoods to keep the Poors out. (I don't blame them, have you met the Poors?)

But liberals also vote for assistance to Poor communities, while conservatives vote to keep them in poverty and misery forever.

      So, still **** the Right.

Blockchain has some valid use cases, but it's most public-facing ones (digital currency, NFTs) are amazing examples of modern day grifting schemes.

              • Kinda. Most of the problems blockchain purports to solve are solvable already with minimal energy input. Blockchain is a scam.

                    • EL-OH-EL. In the UK, the conservative party there tried to cut the tax rate for the top earners from 45% to 40% (similar to every GOP tax cut that gets passed here). The market responded terribly and also included a crash of the British pound.

They have sheepishly decided to cancel the tax cut.

Now raise it from 45 to 90.

Scotland is ****ING ****ED at brexit. It has royally ****ed their whisky and tourism economies. Not lethally or anything like that, but enough for a them to complain openly.

"'Ow many liters can yeh carry back 'ome?"
                          "Five"
                          "Total?"
                          "Each"
"Whoa. Tanks teh brexit we 'aven't sold much to teh EU tourists. Absolutely killin' us."

Almost every distillery tour guide or tasting room bartender has complained how business is **** right now. They can't move much of their distillery exclusives so some have stopped doing them. Which is ****ing insane. It's what you buy when you go to a distillery because they're amazing (and have a price to match).

                          • I pasted a Thread the other day in the Countries chat about uk gov and how all these years of conservative rule has gotten them to this point.

it’d hilarious seeing some Brit conservatives arguing on twitter about how these tax cuts will be necessary. It’s like all the evidence around the world is meaningless

Sheesh. Most of our posters here would love a 45% top bracket in the US, and with way fewer loopholes and deductions to boot.

                                Just remember:

1999: "We are in surplus so a tax cut is necessary to return money to the taxpayers."
2000: "We are in deficit so a tax cut is necessary to prime the economy through private investment."

Conservative politics boils down to one thing only: the exploitation of prejudice and ignorance to shift wealth from the public treasury to the rich.
