They are. But a fair number of them are coming from states where the standard of living was higher (because it was a blue state) and as such are coming with money and buying property at above market value and driving up values around. It's kind of funny because it in Idaho, the folks who have lived here for a while HATE people coming in from out of state, knowing full well that they are just as conservative/magaty as the "native" conservatives/magats.

When I moved to Idaho (believe me not because it was a red state, but because of a great job opportunity) property values and the housing market were reasonable to cheap. Came in 2014, bought in late 2016. Paid $170k for a 2600 sq ft home (and offered less than asking). Currently now estimated at nearly $400k on the market. My property values and taxes have nearly doubled since I bought. The house next door sold in 2022 or maybe late 2021 for over $400k. And it is being used solely as an AirBnb. Cheapest house in town now is $150k for 676 sq ft.

Yeah that Spokane to Coeur d'Alene/Standpoint area is hardcore Aryan nation area. And it stretches into Montana too. Which is a shame because it's beautiful country. The nazis don't deserve the Pacific Northwest or Utah.

I often wonder why this is even happening cause my neighbor and Vivek have assured me that there is nothing wrong with using coal for everything and anything. There are no detrimental effects. What's most interesting about that is the US has a lot of coal. We could just go that route and we'd never run out of energy and never have to import anything again.

It is the great paradox of America that our most beautiful country is inhabited by some of our worst people.

The good news is, in a hundred years, everything in brown will be beautiful, uninhabitable desert:

Even after eight years as Governor, Jenny is keeping Michigan relevant (and hopefully Blue) for a long time to come.

The Selfish Generation bet most of their retirements on real estate inflation/speculation. They're not going to give it up easily.

                        • The shareholders of public companies are starting to eat themselves:

                          https://arstechnica.com/space/2023/0...con-9-rockets/

Shareholders of a pension fund that includes Amazon stock have sued the company, its founder Jeff Bezos, and its board of directors for "breaching their fiduciary duty" as part of a contract to acquire launch services for the Project Kuiper megaconstellation.

The lawsuit, filed on Thursday and first reported by the Delaware Business Court Insider, alleges that in purchasing launches for Kuiper, Amazon failed to consider SpaceX and its Falcon 9 rocket. This was the only prudent choice that would have enabled Amazon to launch half of its constellation by a 2026 deadline, the lawsuit states.
