  • Two things I don’t know if they’ve been discussed or not:
    1) Threads now has web browser compatibility.
    2) Subway Sandwiches just sold to some private equity company FP a little under $10B. The selling party is made up of the founders’ families. EYA: $9.55B. https://www.reuters.com/markets/deal...al-2023-08-24/
"The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." George Orwell, 1984

"One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its Black Gates are guarded by more than just Orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep, and the Great Eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust, the very air you breathe is a poisonous fume." Boromir

"Good news! We have a delivery." Professor Farnsworth

    • For lack of a better thread I just saw this suggested on another site: the American economy should follow the same rules as Mario Kart. The closer you are to 1st place, the worse the power ups you can get.

To which someone else replied: Blue shell the 1%

A very simple explanation/analogy of how it should really work.

        • UAW has overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike starting as soon as September 15th.

How overwhelming? 97% voted yes to authorizing a strike.

Anywhere between 85 and 99% usually.

So the Big Three have decided to FAFO?

Read some of the press statements by the UAW and quickly picked up that they’re running the exact same playbook we Teamsters just ran against UPS. The practice pickets, strike authorization vote taking place at the factories, the press statements, it’s very similar.

Most likely the bribed just didn't vote. I did no research but I assume the "97%" is just of the votes counted not 97% of all workers. That is partly how the Directors Guild contract went through I think under 50% actually voted.

And much like UPS the Big Three can't afford a full on strike for a bevy of reasons...

                              Like I said, FAFO.

Also interesting is seeing the UAW recently elected a new president that campaigned on a more militant stance against the companies. Exactly the same thing that we did at the Teamsters.

In this day and age? Most management these days are too greedy and stupid to bribe people like that.
