Reports came out how Meta and Instagram have been harboring and even promoting child exploration.

CNBC had a talking head on this morning (I tuned in too late on the XM Radio app to hear who it was) discussing how the group he worked with found so much data that they forwarded to the Center for Exploited Children to let them deal with it. Instagram (Meta) relies on AI and machine learning to monitor posts. But these child exploiters were brazenly open about what they were selling, and thousands of users were buying the content. Most using their real name thanks to Meta owning Facebook and Instagram, and linking them.
The guy said it was a colossal breakdown on Instagram's part to not wrangle this in and relying on AI instead of having humans oversee the work or at least check in on it more frequently.
CNBC host then asked why police weren't involved arresting these known child pedophiles, and the guest said that it was *also* a breakdown on the part of the police. The cops just didn't want to invest time and effort.
Then it was asked about how Twitter brought this to the limelight. The guest said he appreciated Musk for highlighting the issues at Instagram, but Twitter was not without fault. Their system for flagging exploited children was completely broken and allowing *everything* through for a while. The only way this agency found out was because images of known exploited children get digitally fingerprinted and those digital fingerprints are all indexed and databases away by this group. Photos of known fingerprinted exploited children were being logged in their system as being posted on Twitter and they started to arrive in volume. So they alerted Twiiter, and Twitter found their content flagging system was practically turned off. So Twitter fixed the problems and re-enabled their moderation system.
Then as a final parting shot, CNBC asked about "what about the other social media services?"
The response: Snap and TikTok are the other two of the big four social companies. But both of those were much better at de-platforming child exploitation.
He then ended the segment by saying "And in fact, for all the issues, made up or real, that surround TikTok, they were actually the best at finding and eliminating child exploitation from their system."
