A sea opens onto an ocean. The Caspian Sea is misnamed, it's a lake.

      Size isn't everything.

A rapidly shrinking lake. It may not dwarf all those others after a while.

          The fate of all lakes.

If you want to see shrinkage, try [strikethrough]Baikal[/strikethrough] Aral.

That is the Aral Sea in your picture there.

I do see there were several articles about Baikal in 2015 where there was concern for shrinking but can't find anything since though I'm sure there is still great concern among the smart folks. Lower than normal snowfall in the mountains around has meant less runoff to fill.

I should not have included "shrink" in my initial google.

Still a prime example of the rapid shrink/drop of many water resources

                • IIRC, the Aral's shrinkage is largely the result of poor and wasteful irrigation practices from the time of Soviet-controlled Uzbekistan. They became the world's #1 exporter of cotton for a time (and Top 5 in child labor, of course), but largely at the expense of that body of water.

Yeah, without looking it up to confirm, I think they effectively drained the lake.

30% of every country. Just keep them out of politics.

We need a polity where they can't vote, it's that simple. You come up with the theory. Something something democracies cannot commit suicide something.

Lake Superior added a full foot to its depth this spring. I’d have to look up the specs, but I think that added over 4.4 trillion gallons of water to it volume.
