  • While I had an inkling it was coming, my manager told me today that she and the head of our team are looking to transition the one part of my job that I really like - managing our branded merchandise program - over to another group on our team. The head of the other group is now the "business owner" of this vendor. They're going to talk to him and share the bunch of stuff I do for them and he's going to have to find someone on his team to take it on. I don't think there is anyone with the capacity (or institutional knowledge). He may have to create a position and if he does, I think I'd like to move to that group to take it. We'll see. I'm really bummed about this.

Maybe they will realize it is a huge mistake and will leave everything as it is now. Good luck anyway!
At the moment i can't complaint about my work as i am a freelancer and get in touch with my boss and colleagues only online, though microsoft teams phone number. Sometimes it would be fun probably to spend time together, but in general i like working from home or from everywhere in the world i want.

      • I ended up dropping out of grad school after discussing it with my advisors and higher ups with the school. It began to feel more like a chore and a massive obligation instead of something I was passionate about. And the stress was making me sick.

Besides, at 41, I'm not exactly looking for a career, just the least annoying way to afford food and shelter.

I just started a new career at 58, after always hating working. It's never too late to find something you enjoy doing, and it is well worth it. But I also didn't go back to school, I used my prior experience (in things I hated) to catch on doing something I liked. I had to sacrifice seniority but it was worth it.

I also realized a Bachelors plus a few years of good experience will give me plenty of "food and shelter" money.

I'm also looking at ways to make money through my writing and creative projects.

              • I have my year end review in 25 minutes. I'm a bit anxious. Will report back after it's over.

                  • What does CR stand for?

Review went fine. Nothing earth shattering. Got the ol' Met Expectations rating.

Code Review. A developer works on a revision split off from the code baseline in a safe place (DEV). Then there's unit test to see if the new code block is internally consistent with defined I/O (TEST). Then the code gets checked back into the test baseline and there's integration test to see if the new code works as expected within the context of the module on a staging server (STAGE). Once approved, as this tester did, it is integrated into the full production code for release as the next deployed revision (PROD). And then off it goes to the install base and is replicated x hundred million times.

The best thing about this note is Amazon now either has to stop, circle back, and review EVERY ONE of its integration tests, which could consume thousands of FTE and disrupt deployment cycles and consumer demand, or stay on schedule, release, but then if something happens and they are sued this is in evidence they didn't do their due diligence after being warned of a potential bug.

In all likelihood the tester did nothing. They may not even be an Amazon employee. But they have given Amazon a big problem.

Do not p-ss SMEs off, you cretinous, ignorant, parasitic MBAs.
