  • Welp.

We have a friend: full bird Colonel, USAF. Cyber expert. Black. 20 years ago he worked for Dr. Mrs. on the Hill. Really sweet guy.

    He's retiring from the AF.

He has two private sector job offers. The first job he will ever have outside the military.

    Any guesses?

    Spoiler: each over $500k.

I had a cousin retire full bird Colonel from the USAF too. He flew those big refuelers. The KC-135. He works for UPS now. Flies their flagship 747s. Regularly takes laps around the Pacific. Louisville-Anchorage-Seoul-Hong Kong-Sydney-Honolulu-Dubai-Cologne are all regular stops for him. I've never asked but I can't imagine how much he's making. Probably not as much as your friend but he's certainly living comfortably.

Huskies are very intelligent and trainable. Huskies make an excellent jogging companion, as long as it is not too hot. Grooming is minimal; bathing is normally unnecessary.

You probably have. I see him post about having to dig out his Anchorage truck when he goes through there in the winter. I think he may have only been a Lt. Colonel though. I can't remember. If you met a UPS pilot named Scott, flying a 747 it was almost certainly him.

During a period of the pandemic he flew into Dubai and had to stay a few nights. The hotel was basically shut down so he was one of the only people there so they gave him a suite. It was the entire floor.

This is the most unsatisfying possible conclusion to a guessing game

The guessing was the money, not the firms.

                            • Question for psych and others who have worked in similar situations:

Ever dealt with an incident that broke you?

Last night at my job, I had a resident in behavior protocol for over three hours. She was screaming at us, spitting on us, said "f you" frequently to us, banged on the office windows hard to get our attention, etc. She does this often and I agree with other coworkers who believe this person should be transferred to a home where they are equipped to deal with behaviors like this.

By the time she finished, I barely had the energy to finish wiping down the kitchen or finish charting.
