I applied for a job within my company that would be a step down for me. Currently I'm a quality manager, and this is a resident engineer position. I'm getting burnt out and I don't want to advance any further in quality. A lot of the appeal is the resident engineer is a hybrid position and I could work from home 3 days a week. Looking long term, I also think doing some design engineer work adds a lot to my resume and opens a lot of other potential jobs for when I leave this company.

I think the interview went well. It was very short, like 12 minutes with me asking more of the questions. I already work with the hiring manager on projects so he knows me and my work. My big questions yet to answer, how much of a pay cut would it be, and how much will my current boss hate me for abandoning her (part of the reason I'm burnt out is that 3 of her other plants don't have quality managers, so the 3 mgrs she does have are trying to cover those too).

I agree. I've participated in BYOB "farewell" hours on Zoom, and hosted one when I left my last employer, but that's it. Flying in remote employees just for that is absurd and a waste of money.

I was offered to get a lunch with my section when I retired. But other than that, I was offered 5 min to speak at the last dept meeting I was in. Yay. This was for one of the massive OEM's, so a party would not have been even noticed on the bottom line.

To give a party for someone who is just leaving?? Seriously? And fly them in? Holy cow. It's not as if they committed most of their life to work with the company.

Good luck with the change, and IMHO, that should not even be on your radar. If they actually cared about you, they would have made it a better place to work and live. But since they clearly didn't make it great, then I don't see worrying about them more than they worry about you, personally, as something that should happen.

It does say a lot about you, as a person, though. You actually care about people around you. That's a good thing.

Turns out, that position would have been more physically involved than I can do at the moment, including covering 1:1 and using physical restraint if needed. Sent a message back to HR seeing if there's anything else available right now.

Last week, a night shift staff who had been sexually assaulting multiple female staff for years, was finally fired. The staff who turned him in told me about the incident (he grabbed her crotch more than once after she told him to stop) the day before she had an interview with the CNO and CEO, both females. After the interview with her and two other night shift female staff he assaulted and harassed, he was terminated. Much rejoice.
This morning, I found out from the first female staff who I knew of who had been sexually assaulted by him (he grabbed her butt off camera in a galley), she quit because of the intense bullying and backlash she experienced from other night shift female staff, who strongly defended this sexual predator. The guy had worked there 20 years, was overwhelmingly nice, helpful, and charming, but behind the scenes, was a manipulative bastard. He blackmailed at least two of those female staff through text messages, saying if they tried to turn him in, he'd get them in trouble and/or fired. I am saddened that this kind of sh-t has hit so close to home, and when I work next, I plan to tell the CNO that there are staff, including some in positions of authority, who were bullying and spreading rumors about this staff to the point that she quit. She was an excellent staff. Worked her a-s off. Picked up shifts, worked units she wasn't familiar with, etc. Frankly, that's irrelevant, as she could have been the worst staff in the world, and still should not been subjected to this type of bullying for speaking out, but my god, what a reality check that this kind of insidious behavior that inherently protects and perpetuates males thinking it's okay to do whatever the f-ck they want is alive and well. I'm disgusted.

Someone from the Foster Care division of my employer called last week. She said she would like to bring me into the division, but she didn't have any positions fitting my background now, but she would keep her eyes open and she will bring me in when something opens up.

Was planning to work from home today, having done my two days in the office already this week. Slept in just a little longer, had a nice, leisurely breakfast. Was planning to finish the laundry after unpacking from my vacation. Grabbed my backpack to set up my desk at home...and realized I left my laptop in the office. Siiiigh. Quickly got dressed, made lunch and took the T into Boston. I've done next to nothing so far. I have stuff to do, I just have no motivation because I'm in work from home mode.
