Re: The States: Where We Wish Texas Would Secede Already
Seems weird that an independent contractor law passed in California a year ago would be the deciding factor in a Congressional election, one way or the other. Aren't the independent contractor rules typically a creature of a state's own unemployment, workers comp and payroll laws? I don't really remember a lot of discussion on them in Congress. That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

Which means it’s somewhat easier, paradoxically, for a relatively unimportant issue to become a galvanizing one at the right time. It may only attract a few hundred supporters, sure, but when your margin is a few hundred with 20-25% turnout, those few hundred might end up swinging it.UConn -- Clarkson

Re: The States: Where We Wish Texas Would Secede Already
It wouldnt be an issue most of the time, but when unemployment is through the roof and you are (inadvertently) making it harder for people to make money in the Gig Economy that becomes a problem. It is unfortunate timing because they arent wrong the idea is to stop companies from denying benefits to employees by making them ICs. (if I read it right)
