That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

I think the City of Minneapolis is supposed to have something like 850 licensed cops, and there has even been an argument advanced that the 850 (the Minneapolis Charter number) is probably low, based upon need.
I think I read that as of the end of September they had something like 295 cops available for public "street" duty. This is largely because the City, for a couple of years, refused to hire more than about 650 (the City has been sued about that, I believe), and now with the attrition due to cops quitting in record numbers, people out with Covid, etc..., you're sitting with a skeleton force.
So what does that mean? Obviously, there simply aren't the required numbers of cops out on the streets perhaps dissuading someone from committing a crime, or doing the grunt work necessary to solve one that's been committed. It also means that there aren't enough cops to run preventative actions, like "bait cars" and the like to try to target people who are committing crimes like carjackings.
You guys don't want pretext stops because you believe they unfairly target minorities. That may or may not be true. But what I do know is that when you pull over a car for expired license tabs or similar pretextual reasons, cops tend to find some very bad **** including narcotics, guns and other weapons, etc..., as well as a lot of people who have warrants or are violating their parole, or whatever.
None of that is happening right now.
Couple that with the public neutering of the police that we've seen over the past few years, welcome to the new world order.

But hey, I really wouldn't lose any sleep over it. The guy who sticks the barrel of his glock in your mouth, yanks you out onto the pavement and takes your car, probably needs it a lot more than you do. Maybe needs it to run to the Pump 'N Loaf for cough medicine for a sick kid or something, so you're really performing a sort of public service by letting it happen.

It's extremely telling that John Roberts became less cop-friendly after he was pulled over for the first time in his life.

Second what the **** do pretext stops have to do with carjackings? You realize the people who are jacking the cars are doing it without a car right? You want to stop a person for license tabs fine, but how about you pull over the White People as much as the Black? According to the Batchit Crazy Right since the Blacks are all criminals on Food Stamps anyways you are more likely to get the money for the fines from the average White Lady in a grocery getter than those Bad Hombres in the hoopties!
Third, I am all for having the 850 cops on the street. The stupidity of the White Guilt Left and their need to try and pretend crime isn't a thing or police aren't needed is beyond ridiculous. (I would have voted NO and I am quite vocal about Police Reform...just not in the middle of a ****ing crime wave) Most of us that are supposedly hurting the cops widdle feelings want to make life easier for them by having them deal with the stuff they are better trained for. (this is where you insert your jackazz line about social workers) We also want them to actually deal with the consequences of their actions which even in Uber Blue Minneapolis is not a thing and has never been a thing. That is the problem. You don't solve said problem by going completely the other way though...that is just illogical. You need to have authority out there even if it is just theatrical. Less carjackings will happen if there are cop cars in the neighborhoods. Since it is making its way to Bougie areas I am sure something will get done.
Being a cop should not give you carte blanche and unfortunately it does. You can whine all you want about how they feel like they are being neutered but they aren't. Outside of Chauvin what cops are being held accountable? The one fired for putting a KKK robe on a Black cops desk? Honestly the cops who whistleblow are punished harder than the ones abusing the public trust. If they can't handle their power bringing about a high level of scrutiny they aren't built for the job anyways.Last edited by Handyman; 11-16-2021, 05:24 PM."It's as if the Drumpf Administration is made up of the worst and unfunny parts of the Cleveland Browns, Washington Generals, and the alien Mon-Stars from Space Jam."

Let me ask you this question. Would you be willing to be a cop right now?
I was talking to a friend about this yesterday at lunch and I told him that if a representative from the City of Minneapolis walked up to me today and offered me $300,000 a year to be a cop, I'd literally laugh in the City's face. I'm not sure there's any of amount of money for which I'd be willing to do that job today, and heck, I kind of like cops. I have friends who are cops.
I'm going to guess that I'm not alone on this board with respect to my unwillingness to be a cop.
As I have told you before, that is a very bad thing. First, it means that we have fewer cops than we really need. Second, it means that the cops we are keeping, and the very few we are hiring, are likely the dregs of society. That is also very bad.
So, why do you suppose that's the case? I know that some of you will want to say that it's because cops aren't allowed to shoot black people anymore, because you guys are all so witty.
But really, why is it? No one wants to go through life hated.
