She can technically drive through Canada to Haines and take a ferry or take an Alaska Marine Highway ferry from Whittier.

        But...

Canada has severe travel restrictions and may well not let her in.

And the AMHS has had severe funding cuts thanks to the Governor and Legislators like her. Plus a Captain has the authority to lock her in her cabin for refusing to wear a mask.

        • I'll say over and over - anti-vaxxers are going to find out that the world is very, very small.

I have a bunch of very religious family (my uncle is a retired pastor), and they had been making almost yearly trips to Israel as group organizers. They fully intend to go in early 2022, but almost all of them flatly refuse the vaccine (further, they seem to think it's all a total fraud). They're going to be sorely disappointed when Israel refuses their visas.

Sounds like she was able to do the car and ferry route

And she “has a new appreciation for the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system”.

The same system she and her GQP colleagues want to scuttle to save money.

Smart man. It's an argument that can be made but why make it now? He accomplishes nothing by saying it. The argument seems to belong in an academic setting and not out in public. All he is feeding is the xenophobes who never seem to have a lack of food anyway.

                    • Top-level Census is out:
                      Texas +2
                      Florida +1
                      North Carolina +1
                      Montana +1
                      Oregon +1
                      Colorado +1
                      West Va. -1

                      Ohio -1
                      Michigan -1
                      Penn. -1
                      N.Y. -1

Probably a boon for the GOP short term. Though most of the growth in the states gaining seats are in the urban centers and most of the decline in the states losing seats are rural, so it's probably not as big a gain for them as it appears. And by the end of the decade, if they gerrymander too much, there could be a huge blue swing if the urban migration overwhelms the gerrymander.

It aint good, but of those gaining states only MT is hard R within a couple cycles.

Also note those gains are educated people moving in turning the states blue.

Also, the next time we have a dependable Dem majority:

                        PR +6 D
DC +2 Sen, +1 Rep (in Congress only, not EV) D

(with whatever adjustments down to compensate)

Yeah, but they can probably find safe red districts to attach all those "new blues" to...for now.

If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?

538 had a great analysis about gerrymandering about 6 years ago. When you get to about +8 the effect completely reverses and results in a net loss for the gerrymanderer. What gerrymandering really does is turn a gentle beach into a cliff.

                              • I think this is addition by subtraction and addition by addition in some places. CA and NY can probably kill off a GOP district (MN would have). MT is said to likely go east-west and likely means 50:50 split.
