There is no connection. Of course the people saying this also said California should have swept away the brush to avoid all the wildfires and blamed that on Dems too so there ya go.

I love all the people who are responding to Cruz and his request for aid like this:

Anyone know if Lyin' Ted has tried to make the argument that this isn't socialism because Texans paid federal taxes that are supposed to pay for disaster aid in these situations? :-)

      • I never thought I would appreciate the energy company where I live, but I now appreciate them. At least DTE's power outage map tells me how long the power has been out and tries to give a restoration time (that time often changes, but at least it's something).

Watching this play out from Michigan while my family is in Houston without power and nothing I can do from here to help is nerve-wracking. Also, why isn't my parent's land line working? I thought those things were supposed to work even when the power is out.

If by primary you mean 15% of their overall power source, then you are correct.

Also: "45 gigawatts total were offline, with 28 gigawats from thermal sources and 18 gigawatts from renewable sources, ERCOT officials said."

Renewables overall make up barely 18% of ERCOT power sources. The fossil fuel plants and nuke plants failing in the cold are what caused this issue.

Are you sure it's a POTS line they're still on? Do they have a hard corded phone connected and not a modern one?

I'll bet $20,000(which I don't have) that Rick Perry ain't sitting in Texas without power.

This was in an article on the Perry quote.

A senior director at the Electric Reliability Council of Texas told Bloomberg that wind shutdowns were responsible for between 3.6 and 4.5 gigawatts of the total 30 to 35 gigawatts worth of outages.

Jesus Christ, talk about using an ellipsis to change the context of the quote.

I said their primary sources of electricity are wind and natural gas. Natural gas makes up 40-45% of their generating capacity, and wind is second at 15-20%. Together that's 55-65%, which would be most. Coal has fallen off a cliff, and nuclear is holding steady.

Considering what’s going with the water supply now in Texas, that snow may be the only thing keeping some people alive.
