Daughter and bf bought a home on the other side of Pontchartrain in February. They are prepared but wary. At least they are out of the City for the water side of it. They're pretty close to the lake, but apparently on relatively high ground.

#Ida semi stall and now turn north will mean a closer path to #NewOrleans. The inner eye will miss but that outer eye is going to take the city from 5-8 pm. Gusts in 90-110 mph range likely!

Thankfully the storm isn't approaching from a bit further east... That would have made the storm surge even worse...

Don't moderate your behavior when a hurricane is coming. Don't board up your windows or evacuate. We can't live in fear. Don't enable a tyrannical government.

I would have thought that would be an independently reserve powered system not on the grid. Since you know during a flood grids fail. Now let's all pile into this elevator to escape the fire.

That sounds seriously expensive. Not that the alternative is cheaper, mind you, so surely an independent backup has been considered - I do sympathize a little with the decision makers who were charged with weighing that option.
If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?

Red state - everyone away from the coasts (Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria) would throw a tantrum over paying for that.
